Get Connected: Lake Travis Area Facebook Groups

Written by Cathy Hale | December 3, 2014

Whether you’re a fan of Facebook or not, there’s no denying the power of its connectivity. Thanks to the evolution of Facebook groups, you can now engage and connect with thousands of Lake Travis area residents in the community by joining or starting your own group.

Unlike Facebook pages that accumulate “likes,” groups are built with “members,” so they are organically interactive for smaller groups of people who use them for communications, sharing and interaction. Today’s groups also enjoy more intuitive privacy settings. (Thanks, Facebook gurus!)

Lake Travis Area History: Lakeway

Lake Travis History: Lakeway

At the outer edge of Austin’s city limits, 16 miles West of the city, sits the quaint community of Lakeway, Texas. What began as a relaxing resort town for vacationers and retirees, is now a growing city that has more than doubled in population since the 1990s. This exurb, although still relatively young, has a colorful and vibrant history consisting of many types of people settling in the Hill Country throughout the centuries.

The earliest settlers to the Texas Hill Country and Lakeway shared land with Native Americans, most notably the Tonkawa and later the Apache and Comanches. Looking around the lakeside community from its major road hub, Ranch Road 620, there are views of the surrounding hills and cedar fields so vast that you can almost imagine the first of the Tonkawa people to settle down in the area.

Making use of the natural flint found in the ground to make their tools and arrowheads, the indigenous people were also known for their pottery and copper jewelry. In time, more aggressive and warring tribes would push the natives out of their habitats and east of the Edwards Plateau.

Lake Travis Neighborhood Guide: The Hills of Lakeway

Written by Todd Hower | February 26, 2014

The Hills of Lakeway

People love this classic neighborhood and it’s one of the more established neighborhoods in the Lake Travis area. Weaving through the golf courses of The Hills Country Club and surrounded by the larger Lakeway community, The Hills is a beautiful and convenient place to call home. This gated community is popular with families, golf enthusiasts, vacationers and retirees.

History

The Hills of Lakeway, now designated as The Hills (or Village of The Hills), was originally in the extra-territorial jurisdiction of the City of Austin. The Hills became an incorporated city in Texas in May 1997. New construction is ongoing, along with remodeling, because you can find homes in the neighborhood with year built dates going back to the early 1980’s.

The Hills community is in the heart of Lakeway but considered a village. As a resident, you’ll have an exclusive address of “The Hills, Texas 78738” — designated by the The United States Post Office.
