Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: April 21-23, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | April 21, 2017

Temperatures are cooling down a bit this weekend, but hey — we’re not complaining. It’ll be triple digits soon enough. There’s plenty to do in and around the Lake Travis area, so a few clouds shouldn’t interfere with your plans.

Before we dive into the weekend, let’s take a look back at what happened this week …

On Wednesday, Sandra gave us the real estate scoop with helpful insight about home mortgages and lending. If you’re buying a home in the Lake Travis area, you’re in good hands.

Mark your calendars for the 10th annual SpringFest celebration that will be held on Saturday, April 29 at Hill Country Galleria. Cathy shared an insider’s guide for festival-goers, so you can make the most of the afternoon. Plus, find out what’s new to SpringFest this year!

Signs are popping up around the area in preparation for General Election and Special Election voting on May 6th. Wondering what’s what? Next week, we’ll cover some of the hot topics you’ll see on the ballots in Austin, Bee Cave, and Lakeway.

Until then, enjoy the weekend, Lake Travis!

Easter Edition! Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: April 14-16, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | April 13, 2017

There’s no school on Friday, so our weekend officially starts early. That’s why we’re giving you an extra day to finalize your weekend plans!

We hope you enjoy our first-ever Easter Edition of Weekend Roundup! It highlights just a few of the wonderful events happening at Lake Travis area churches, as well as local restaurants hosting special Easter brunches.

If you’re looking for something to do tonight, there’s plenty! Check out live music at The Oasis and Poodie’s. Plus, there’s a petting zoo and face-painting for the kiddos at Kid’s Eat Free Night tonight at Table 620 (H-E-B) starting at 6pm. And, Hill Country Galleria is hosting its April Wine Walk from 5pm-9pm.

Before we dive into the holiday weekend, let’s take a look back at what happened this week …

Yesterday, Cathy reminded us to drive Texas friendly. Bad drivers may be frustrating, but trying to snap a pic of one for the purpose of driver-shaming online is not safe for anyone. Come on, people. Stop the nonsense.

In other news, things are buzzing in Lakeway with three items on the ballot for the May 6 election. There’s a City Council election and two propositions. One is for tax bonds that includes the new police facility and the other is for the re-authorization of a 1/4 percent local sales and use tax to maintain and improve streets. We’ll explore these items further in the upcoming weeks.

Enjoy your long weekend and happy Easter, Lake Travis!

#ThrowbackThursday in Lake Travis: Remember Four Years Ago When …

Written by Cathy Hale | April 6, 2017

Once in a while it’s fun to take a look back instead of jumping ahead. Forget the latest commercial real estate rumors and ignore your inner dialogue as you drive by a construction site on FM 620 and muse, “I bet that’s gonna be a bank or a mattress store …”

Do you remember when the news of Oaks at Lakeway first started snagging headlines?

It was June 2013. That’s when we discovered a custom-designed 90k square foot H-E-B was headed our way. We knew it would be big and fab-u-lous, which it is. The only thing we’re wondering is where is our nifty golden sailboat sculpture from the rendering above? I mean, who doesn’t appreciate a flaxen nautical monument?

If you’ve been living in Lake Travis for a long time, you’ll probably remember the hot topics of the day in 2013. If not, enjoy reliving some of LT’s big moments.

Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery Opens in Oaks at Lakeway

Written by Mandy Spivey | March 29, 2017

“Every painting is a voyage into a sacred harbour.” – Giotto di Bondone

Art inspires.

Art transports.

Art elevates the space it inhabits, bringing with it a connection between artist and viewer.

Lake Travis has a new gallery on the scene to take in and enjoy, exhibiting some of the finest paintings, sculptures, and even jewelry to a growing clientele.

Spending an afternoon perusing fine art at Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery, you might feel more like you’re on the Upper West Side than in the Oaks at Lakeway. Where Austin severely lacked fine art, gallery owner Lisa Russell sources and delivers to the Lake Travis area.

It’s a labor of love that started when Russell first came to Austin over  a decade ago, bringing along her fine sense of taste.

Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: March 10-12, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | March 10, 2017

If sipping a tangy Bloody Mary overlooking the lovely blue shores of Lake Travis sounds good to you, head on over to Lucy’s on the Lake this weekend and enjoy their daily crawfish boil. Besides, isn’t that what weekends are for?

Before you take a look at the upcoming weekend, let’s take a look back at what went on this past week …

On Wednesday, we gave you a stellar Spring Break “To Do” list featuring more than 30 fun things to do in the Lake Travis area. With the lakes so full and the weather so comfortable, it’s the perfect time of year to get out there and discover all of the fun right here in your own backyard.

On Thursday, Cathy introduced us to the new & improved McArthur’s menu and let Lakeway’s little breakfast secret out of the bag. Did you know McArthur’s serves up breakfast seven days a week from 8am-noon. Pancakes, bacon, omelets, biscuits — oh boy!

In other community related news …

Our friends at the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce are getting ready to throw the BIGGEST time in the smallest town. The 10th annual SpringFest will take place on Saturday, April 29 at Hill Country Galleria, so mark your calendars!

It’s strawberry season once again, which means Sweet Berry Farm is open for business. Opening day of our favorite farm was March 3, and it was a big success. Field conditions do change based on the weather, so keep an eye on their website for updates. Sweet Berry Farm is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8:30am-5:30pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm.

With so much to do and see, we need longer weekends. Have fun, Lake Travis friends!
