Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend & Memorial Day Roundup: May 26-29, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | May 25, 2017

The weekend is almost here and it’s a long one. Yep, it’s Memorial Day weekend friends, and we’re giving you an extra day to make your plans. Lake Travis area golf courses are lush, lakes are full, and public pools are open for business. There’s no shortage of outdoor activities to choose from.

Before we dive into the long weekend, let’s take a quick look back at the week.

On Wednesday, Cathy shared the inside scoop on Lake Travis area wine tours. From Dripping Springs to Spicewood, we’ve got 7 local wineries and vineyards that are perfect for summertime day-tripping excursions.

And rainbows were kind of a big deal this week.

Did you see them?

We had normal rainbows in Lakeway and twin rainbows reaching across the Bee Cave sky. A couple of Lake Travis residents were lucky enough to catch ’em and nice enough to share. Scroll down for pics.

In honor of Memorial Day …

You are invited to pay tribute to the brave men and women who died serving our country at a Memorial Day Ceremony at Emmaus Church on Friday at 11am. This event is sponsored by the Lake Travis Standing Military Committee and the Lohmann’s Ford Chapter of the NSDAR. The LPD Color Guard and the Lakeway Sing Along Choir will also be participating. The guest speaker will be U.S. Navy Ret. Rear Admiral Judson “Jud” Scott.

This Memorial Day weekend in Bee Cave and Lakeway, Operation CARE (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) will be in effect which means Travis County deputies and Department of Public Safety troopers may simply issue you a bookmarker with public safety information on it instead of a citation (if you’re lucky). The goal of this nationwide program is to reduce accidents and save lives.

Have a fun and safe long weekend, Lake Travis friends!

Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: May 19-21, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | May 19, 2017

The weekend is here, LT! Lake Travis is 96% full with more rain on the way. But hey, we’re not complaining. With views like this, how could we?

You can actually enjoy the same view of Lake Travis when you head over to the Parade of Homes in Rough Hollow this weekend. That stunning view is from the patio of the Laurel Haven Homes villa we wrote about yesterday. The tour is open to the public through May 29th.

On Wednesday, Cathy re-introduced us to 10 of the best dang swimmin’ spots in the Lake Travis area. Whether you’re looking for hidden spring-fed gems tucked in the Texas Hill Country or spacious public swim centers, we have you covered.

Have a great weekend, Lake Travis friends!

Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: May 5-7, 2017

Happy Cinco de Mayo, Lake Travis friends!

On this date in 1862, a small, ill-equipped and outnumbered Mexican army under General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated the French forces of Napoleon III. Today, we celebrate the people of Mexico and show sincere appreciation (not appropriation) for their culture.

If you haven’t voted yet, it’s time to get out there and do it this weekend. We know how much you love your community and you want to see it grow with care. We hear you, LT. You’re smart. You’re vocal. It’s time to be heard.

Before we jump into the weekend roundup, let’s take a look back at what went on this past week …

On Wednesday, Cathy gave you the inside scoop on General and Special Elections in various local municipalities with sample ballot details. Get informed and get out there voters!

On Thursday, Kim shared an inside look at Lake Travis Crisis Ministries, an organization dedicated to helping Lake Travis families in need. There are many ways you can lend a hand and support this organization by donating clothes, household items and more.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, local photographer Richard Parker is hosting a Mama & Me photo session special. For $150, mom can pose with her cute kiddos for a mini photo shoot on May 13th, 2017, noon–6pm at My Time Kids Academy in Bee Cave. The entire session fee will be donated to CC4C.org. Book it pronto — only 24 spots available.

There are so many fun events happening, you’ll have plenty to do. Have a great weekend, Lake Travis friends!

Voting in the Lake Travis Area on May 6: General Elections & Special Elections

Written by Cathy Hale | May 3, 2017

If you haven’t noticed, Central Texas roadways are peppered with campaign signs — both professionally printed and hand-scrawled. That’s because it’s election time.

On Saturday, May 6, residents who haven’t participated in early voting in the Lake Travis area are headed to the polls. Voting will take place for City of Bee Cave, City of Lakeway, Dripping Springs, Llano, as well as many other municipalities.

Unlike many elections that roll gently through the Texas hillside, this one is causing quite a stir.

Last week, an article in the Bee Cave Bee about LTYA sparked a hot debate on Facebook. In addition to lively debates over City Council members, there are special election items that have been creating a buzz in Lakeway and Llano.

To prepare you for the big day, we’re giving you a snapshot of the May 6, 2017 Joint General and Special Elections ballot, so you know exactly what’s what.

Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: April 28-30, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | April 28, 2017

Let’s kick-off this weekend with a little humor from our pals over at Angel’s Icehouse. This is what makes life in the Lake Travis area great. Just because we have some of the most spectacular views in Texas doesn’t mean we have to be uppity about it.

There’s a chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday, but overall it looks likes a comfortable weekend ahead. Let’s send some “please don’t rain vibes” to Mother Nature because SpringFest is happening on Saturday at Hill Country Galleria. The biggest time in the smallest town. Well, small-ish.

Before we exhaust you with all of your awesome event options, let’s take a look back at what went on this past week …

On Wednesday, Cathy shared our annual Best Patios in the Lake Travis Area article. This year, we tried to include a few unexpected spots like the Apis/Sorellina campus and Oasis Texas Brewing Company. This is the perfect weather for exploring patios, so get out there and see for yourself.

In preparation for this weekend’s Spring Shows for the Vandegrift Legacies and the Lake Travis Cavalettes, we honored these talented young ladies and drill team alumni who are cultivating a love of dance in the community.

Today, we have a special offer to share!

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, local photographer Richard Parker is hosting a Mama & Me photo session special.
