LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: May 25-27, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | May 24, 2018

When red is touching yellow …

The uptick in Lake Travis area snake sightings is a surefire sign that summer has arrived. One of our neighbors shared this visual guide about snakes in Texas and here are your must-know snake facts that will keep you safe. “Red touching black, safe for Jack. Red touching yellow, kill a fellow.”

When it takes four years to get a toilet …

Good news for the thousands of Lake Travis area kiddos and families who play sports at Field of Dreams. Lake Travis Youth Association announced future improvements including things like live feed video in the fields, new LED lighting, and more bathroom trailers – it has only taken four years.

When it won’t rain on your parade …

The City of Lakeway is accepting entries for its 43rd annual July 4th Parade. This year’s theme of “Salute to Volunteers” honors those who have put service before self to contribute to our country and our city. The parade will start at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4 on Lakeway Drive from the Live Oak Clubhouse and end at Cross Creek. Entry deadline is June 27.

When you almost get run over by gazelles … again …

We spotted the Blackbuck antelope duo once again in Lakeway, but this time we were ready. We have video footage of them walking around before they disappear into the woods. What a relief for those of us who thought we were hallucinating.

LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: April 20-22, 2018

When the road you travel needs more friends in high places …

TxDOT declined to ask for money to help widen northern RM 620 from Mansfield Dam to U.S. 183. Apparently what the winding, congested highway in western Travis County needs, at least the part of it north of Mansfield Dam, is more friends in high places.

This will give you more time to get to know the nine drivers you’ll meet at 620 & 2222.

Birrell Street Insanity: How Will Lakeway Grow The Oaks, Police Facility & Lakeway Town Center Phases?

Written by Cathy Hale | February 21, 2018

If you live or work in the Lakeway area and you shop at The Oaks or the adjoining shopping centers, you know the action on Birrell Street is ridiculous. This is the road that runs between Lakeway Town Center and the US Post Office to Medical Drive (Lakeway H-E-B). Hundreds of cars per day are using this access road zipping to and from The Oaks.

And it’s not just this road. It’s happening in the parking lot of the Lakeway Town Center in front of Thai Spice and the newly opened Hops & Thyme.

When you pull into a parking spot there, you may as well bring a tent and camping equipment. You’re stuck for a while. Speed bumps were installed to make it safer or less attractive for shortcuts, but that’s not changing a thing.

That said, the development of The Oaks and the Lakeway Police Station continues, and Lakeway Town Center phases are expanding to include Lakeway Plaza Partners III and IV, which means more and more traffic will head this way.

Are there plans to make Birrell Street the world’s shortest toll road?

Of course not. But seriously, folks — how will Lakeway grow its infrastructure to figure this stuff out?

Before we take a look ahead, let’s take a quick look back at how the area at FM 620 and Lohmans Crossing Road evolved.

Lake Travis at a Glance: Eyes on Hotels, Schlotzsky’s on its Way & Hands Off Cellphones

Written by Cathy Hale | September 7, 2017

The development along RR 620 is impossible to ignore. In the 3-mile stretch along RR 620 from Hwy. 71 to Oaks at Lakeway, you’ll see multiple commercial projects spanning the phases of construction from clearing land to framing to punch list.

Back in January 2015, we wrote about all of the new hotels headed to the Lake Travis area. At that time, the Sonesta Hotel was still under construction. We mentioned more hotels on the way including a La Quinta and a Marriott, both rumored to be at Lakeway Medical Village (322 Medical Parkway). Well, that’s still 50% accurate …

Today we’re taking a look at businesses headed this way including Marriott, La Quinta, and the new Schlotzsky’s special concept restaurant, Schlotzsky’s Austin Eatery.

Plus, the statewide texting while driving ban is in effect. Put. That. Phone. Down.

Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: August 11-13, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | August 11, 2017

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend in Lake Travis with plenty to do and see.

This month we wrap up the summer, get ready for the school year, and head into the final third of the year, so make the most of it.

On Thursday, Cathy introduced us to new businesses specializing in desserts, coffee, and tunes. It’s the newest craze in the Lake Travis area — Taiwanese snow ice. There’s a new coffee joint featuring in-house fire-roasted beans coming to Four Points, and we’re whistling a tune about Lone Star School of Music’s grand opening in August.

Thanks to the recent rainy weather, Lake Travis is up 1.3 feet and Lake Buchanan is up 8 inches.

It’s Tax-Free Weekend and Hill Country Galleria is hiding $100 gift cards for a Back to School Shopping Treasure Hunt starting at 10am today.

Have fun this weekend, everyone!
