Written by Cathy Hale | May 29, 2019

Yes, it’s good to be a Lake Travis-ite this summer. Lake Travis is open for business, which makes for exciting summer days and breezy evenings gazing at a beautiful Texas sunset.

As of May 28, 2019, LCRA reported Lake Travis and Lake Buchanan are 97% full. This time last year, we were hovering at 84% full. There’s also more rain on the way for the Texas Hill Country, so we’re going to be happy and full for a while.

Once again, we’ve got your annual Summer Fun Roundup. There’s so much to do and see right in your backyard — how many ‘Fun Things’ will you do?

Here are 30+ fun things to do this summer in Lake Travis.

Written by Todd Hower | May 28, 2019

Ahhh, summertime in Lake Travis.

It’s time for a summer break filled with swimming, waking up late, and just plain fun. And for the parents — let’s not forget about the break from all the school traffic.

It’s also time once again for a summer of movies in Lakeway. Every Friday night from June 8 until August 10, Lakeway is the place to go for Movies in the Park and Dive-In Movies at the pool.

What’s showing this year? Here’s the scoop:

LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: December 14-16, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | December 13, 2018

When’s there’s no sense of urgency …

And then there’s no water. An “after action” report was delivered by Austin Water. The response to conserve water back on October 21 — when severe flooding overwhelmed the city’s water-treatment systems — was not well received. The reduction in water usage only came after the boil water notice was issued. And then the run on bottled water began. Austin Water is looking at ways to prevent the need to issue a future water-boil order.

When you want to get connected …

Give me sidewalks with that. Done. This approved roadway — with sidewalks — will connect Bee Cave Parkway to Ladera Boulevard and help to reduce traffic in the area. We could all use a little traffic reduction.

When you do NOT want to get connected …

WTF is route F? Steiner Ranch residents are feeling like “bait and switch” after Travis County proposed a permanent road for an evacuation route. There’s only one way out of the Steiner Ranch neighborhood, and that dumps you on 620. Not a good plan when you’re trying to outrun a wildfire (like in 2011). Travis County has been working on an evacuation route for years. Progress is now slowing down, and an effort to get questions answered and people on the same page is underway.

When you win at the Alamodome …

Next up, NRG Stadium in Houston. Lake Travis faces the unbeaten Northshore in the Class 6A Division I state semifinal on Saturday. Go Cavs!

When you need serenity now …

We have 30 seconds for you.

When you’re short on time to be festive…

We have 13 seconds for you.

When you have plenty of time to be festive…

In case you missed it, we gave you a rundown of some of the best places in the nearby Texas Hill Country to enjoy a stroll under twinkly holiday lights.

When you want someone else to cook …

On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale gave you a glimpse of new dining options headed your way and a quick look at the restaurants newly opened — and opening — in and around the Lake Travis area.

LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: November 16-18, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | November 15, 2018

When you don’t want to eat breakfast alone …

Have breakfast with the big guy. This Lake Travis area holiday tradition is taking place on December 8, and you’d better buy your tickets now because they go fast.

When you’re perfect …

You get to be the team of the week. The Vandegrift Vipers sealed the first undefeated season (10-0, 8-0 District 13-6A) in school history with a win over Stony Point.

When you’ve won three straight …

You want to keep the winning streak alive. Lake Travis is looking to make an appearance at a fourth straight 6A state championship game and second title with a win against Smithson Valley on Friday night.

When you wanna get lit …

So does Lakeway.

When you have too much and too little …

Water. Historic flooding and the stress it caused are still at the forefront as Austin Water is looking to pass the Water Forward Plan.

When you make a difference …

Two major wildfires are still raging in California. Pray for these heroes.

On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale introduced you to Lake Travis resident Alison Watters, who made it her mission to give back to the community from the moment she arrived in Texas.

LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: November 9-11, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | November 8, 2018

When you close your gates …

You re-open at 101% full. On Wednesday, LCRA closed the last floodgate at Mansfield Dam and re-opened Lake Travis for recreation. Lakes Buchanan, Inks and Travis are now open. Lakes LBJ and Marble Falls will remain closed until at least Friday, November 9, because of debris and unsafe conditions caused by the recent flooding.

When you vote …

It matters. The race for two open “at large” seats on the Lakeway City Council was a close one. Candidate Wendi Severance trailed Higginbotham by only three votes.

When you vote early …

You’re not alone. Travis County residents turned out in full presidential-level voting mode and tallied over 3,000 votes per hour. Here are the final election results.

When you turn pro …

Buh-bye NCAA. Former Lake Travis High School golf star, Kristen Gillman, will forgo her final two years of NCAA eligibility at Alabama and join the LPGA Tour as a rookie in 2019.

When you have a past …

Upcycle that. On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale introduced you to Eco Estate Jewelry. With the holidays approaching, estate jewelry may be the perfect gift for lots of people on your list, yourself included.
