LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: November 2-4, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | November 1, 2018

When you crave this Halloween treat …

It’s not candy corn. This is the Halloween candy Texans love.

When you pass the test …

Drink your tap water freely. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality gave Austin water the all clear. The city-wide boil water notice ended on Sunday, October 29.

When you wish you lived in Arizona …

But you don’t. It’s time to turn your clock back this weekend. And this is how we feel about that.

When you can’t cross the road …

Call these Steiner Ranch sisters. Their mission got the attention of transportation leaders. They hope to inspire other young people to take action.

When you need a new mattress …

You might have to drive farther. Mattress Firm increased the number of stores it plans to close in the Austin area.

When you can’t finish your burger …

Not cool. The Lakeway Whataburger was evacuated for a bomb threat on Tuesday.

When you exchange Tootsie Rolls for toys …

It’s Candy Buy-Back time at Learning Express Toys in the Hill Country Galleria from November 1-4. Exchange one pound of candy loot for one Toy Buck (maximum five pounds).

When you want to expand your turf …

Open up a sports complex. On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale talked about the plan for the Bee Creek Sports Complex.

LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: October 19-21, 2018

When it goes from drought to deluge …

This historic Texas-sized flood happening in the Highland Lakes area is hitting us hard. And by us, I mean our entire community. Before we look at weekend events, we hope you — your family, friends, and neighbors — are all safe and sound.

The above photo was taken at Lakeway City Park on Wednesday. The picture we ran in our October 17 article is the same park photographed less than 24 hours earlier. Yes, those lush, green grounds you see on Tuesday were submerged by Wednesday morning.

Check out the Lake Travis Lifestyle Facebook Page and Instagram Page for more pictures and videos.

714 feet

The number when water would flow over the spillway of Mansfield Dam.

How To Speak Up in Lakeway

Written by Cathy Hale | October 10, 2018

A lot is happening in Lakeway, and we know you want to get involved, so put your glossophobia aside and speak up.

Do you remember that good ole TxDOT FM620 Feasibility Study we chatted about back in 2016?

Come on. It was beyond exciting. I should know because I wrote it. Seriously, a gripping read.

What about buildings?

Yes, we mean real structures — either commercial or residential — in Lakeway.

What about wildlife?

Remember the suspension of the Trap, Transport and Process program in Lakeway?

Uh-huh.

A City Girl in Texas: When Lake Travis is like Animal Planet

Written by Cathy Hale | June 27, 2018

2018 has been an exciting year for critter sightings in the Lake Travis area. And not just the usual creepy crawlers like hairy spiders and snakes. We’re talking exotic game, like gazelles and a ghost deer, casually roaming around Lake Travis neighborhoods.

Okay, that’s not their real names. That’s what I called them, but that’s because I’m not a real Texan …

LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: June 1-3, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | May 31, 2018

When wildlife sightings keep getting wilder …

First, it was the turkeys at the Texaco. Then it was the python in Steiner Ranch. Last week, it was antelopes. Now, it’s getting even better. Another exotic has been spotted casually strolling near Lakeway City Park — an Axis Deer. Next up, elephants.

When you’re a summer bookworm …

If you haven’t discovered your local libraries yet, you’re in for a treat. Both Lake Travis Community Library and Bee Cave Library are hosting their Summer Reading Kick-Off parties this weekend on Saturday. Just do yourself a favor — print out this calendar and put it on the fridge.

When you like to drive 4 mph …

The City of Lakeway is accepting entries for its 43rd annual July 4th Parade until June 27. This year’s “Salute to Volunteers” parade will start at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4 on Lakeway Drive from the Live Oak Clubhouse and end at Cross Creek.

When your focus is downward instead of upward …

Fredericksburg is looking to cut down on light pollution by becoming an International Dark-Sky community. Dripping Springs and Horseshoe Bay are the only other Texas cities with the designation.
