The third annual Run for a Purpose, which includes a 5K as well as a KidsK for children 10 and under, takes place in Lakeway on Sunday, March 2nd.
Run for a Purpose provides an opportunity for lung cancer advocates, survivors, family, friends and the community to come together to raise awareness and desperately needed funds for lung cancer research.
The day kicks off early, with the KidsK at 8am followed by the 5K at 8:30 (for registration info click here). Volunteers from Lake Travis High School HOSA department will supervise kids activities such as face painting, temporary tattoos and art projects.
Whole Foods will provide post-race snacks and there will be a water stop courtesy of Be Healthy Lake Travis. Post-race, Lakeway Health and Wellness will provide massages. Several other local organizations have generously donated their time and resources to support this important cause. Not only is Run for a Purpose a fun, healthy event for the entire family, but it supports an important cause in the community.
The proceeds from Run for a Purpose benefit Rexanna’s Foundation, which brings awareness and raises funds for lung disease. Rexanna’s Foundation was named from Rexanna Hawkins, a lifelong educator and coach who was devoted to her students, family and friends. A nonsmoker throughout her life, Rexanna was diagnosed only two months before she lost her battle with lung cancer at age 49 in 2006. Rexanna’s strength, faith and sheer will inspired the foundation, and each board member has been personally touched by the terrible disease of lung cancer.
Lung disease affects so many people right here in our community, and Run for a Purpose provides a positive opportunity to support and make a difference for an important cause.
