Written by Sandra Spicher | January 26, 2016

Blonde-Roast

The gas-fired barrel roaster rumbles along for a few minutes, then a crackle sounds. It’s like a dry twig snapping. Scott Bogart checks a temperature gauge.

He nods, twists a handle, and pulls out a hot sample.

The coffee beans in the sample tube are turning from the delicate green of new lettuce to a shade like straw.

Heritage Oak in Cedar Park

Over four hundred years ago, an acorn fell to the ground, split, and sent out a tiny shoot seeking light. From those humble beginnings came a live oak that is now nearly 60 feet tall and spreading over 80 feet. It’s the central feature of Heritage Oak Park at 875 Quest Parkway in Cedar Park.

The city of Cedar Park itself wouldn’t go by that name until 1887, when it was changed from Bruggerhoff.
