Lake Travis Development Update: Here Comes Main Street, Howdy High 5 & More

Written by Cathy Hale | September 21, 2015

If you’ve driven by the new Oaks at Lakeway development on RR 620, you may have noticed the Main St. sign is ready for business. Well, on one side of the street.

As per the initial development agreement, Glen Heather Drive has been renamed Main Street and this road will serve as the main entrance into the Oaks at Lakeway.

Plus, there’s a new traffic light looming over this soon-to-be busy intersection, which has us traffic-weary locals feeling slightly stressed.

Lake Travis Local: Why Female Entrepreneurs Thrive in Texas

Written by Cathy Hale | September 17, 2015

We know our slice of the Texas Hill Country is known for many great things. Yes, the Live Music Capital of the World consistently sits atop practically every “Best Of” list for living, working, eating and playing in the United States. What you might not know is it ranks highly as a great city (and state) for female entrepreneurs.

When we began our Lake Travis Local series in November 2014, we had every intention of writing about men and women, yet all of our articles have featured women. We actually joked about it internally because we felt bad for the fellas. Our local ladies like Wendi Aarons, Heather Campbell-Green, Holly Mills-Gardner, Karen Killough, Jenny Cokins, Candace Thrash and Whitney Hengstebeck (just to name a few!) were snagging the spotlight.

But at Lake Travis Lifestyle, we go where the stories take us and if you dig deeper into the female entrepreneurial success stories in Austin and Lake Travis, as well as Texas as a whole, you can begin to see why this is the case.

Get Your Drank On … in Target?

Written by Cathy Hale | September 2, 2015

Target is the best. And if it’s already the best, how could it possibly get better?

[Insert cocktails here.]

If you’ve stopped by Target for paper towels and walked out with a shopping cart full of strawberry-scented shaving cream, oodles of gummy fruit snacks, two decorative throw pillows, a lawn chair, a matching set of 12 Halloween plates you found in the dollar bin (score!), a ceramic coffee mug with an owl on it (but he has a mustache!) and a Sponge Bob pinata (for no particular reason), then you understand how bonkers it would be if Target served alcohol.

Can you image how insanely impulsive your purchases would be if you were sipping lemon sours during your stroll through the infinite sea of infinity scarves? As the millennials would say, “I literally can’t even.”

A Sneak Peek Inside Austin's 2015 Home of Distinction Benefiting Children's Charity

Written by Cathy Hale | September 1, 2015

Lake Travis is home to many highly respected and talented business owners, so it should come as no surprise that custom home builders Steve Zbranek and Tony Holt of Zbranek & Holt Custom Homes call Lake Travis home for their award-winning business.

From donating $150,000 to the Lake Travis Youth Association in 2010, to serving on various boards for Lake Travis-based organizations throughout the years, to being a founding member of the Lakeway Police Memorial and Benevolent Foundation (Holt), the laundry list of contributions the two have made to the LT area, and Austin, is impressive to say the least.

In fact, Zbranek and Holt met for the first time in 2004, while building a charity home for the Lake Travis Education Foundation that raised $125,000 for the organization.

In addition to supporting the community, Zbranek & Holt Custom Homes has been “wowing” homeowners with luxurious dream homes that are truly spectacular for more than 10 years. And this year is no exception. They were selected as Austin’s 2015 Home of Distinction Builder with proceeds benefiting Center for Child Protection.
