The dance halls peppered throughout Texas are about more than live music and two-steppin’ to the rhythm. They’re a poetic nod to community, culture, and family. A romantic notion that’s simple and uncluttered.

Over the years, many of these dance halls have been torn down, but thanks to champions who fight for them, many are still swinging today. The floors may be scuffed and crooked, but that’s part of the historic charm.

If you live in the Lake Travis area, you’re surrounded by some of the state’s most treasured dance halls. Let’s take a look at five must-see dance halls that are a hop, skip and jump away from Lake Travis. In other words, maybe an hour’s drive at most.

Life in the Lake Travis area means everyone has their favorite spot for good food, good fun, and spectacular sunsets. After all, lakeside dining is one of the perks of livin’ the lake life.

If you haven’t been out to Sandy Creek Marina lately, you’re missing out on one of Lake Travis’ best restaurants on the lake — Shack 512. Today we’ll introduce — or reintroduce — you to this lakefront dining destination.

There are also lots of new things happening over at Pure Barre Lakeway. In addition to new ownership, Pure Barre has rolled new ‘Empower’ classes with more cardio and more ways to transform your body.

And since everyone loves a puppy parade, check out Lakeway’s Halloween Dog Walk on Saturday, where local pooches will showcase their cutest costumes.

Hill Country Galleria: 10 Years in Lake Travis, Halloween & Trampolines

Did you know Hill Country Galleria has been our neighbor for ten years?

The mall opened on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, with 35 retailers. Today the 1.3 million-square-foot entertainment, shopping and dining destination is a staple in the Lake Travis community with nearly 100 retailers. And they’re celebrating their 10th anniversary this weekend.

We love HCG for hosting annual events like SpringFest, the Tree Lighting, and Santa’s Arrival. We love the monthly wine walks and all of the live music. Whether you’re shopping cool toys at Learning Express, savoring a delicious bite at ALLSTAR Burger or sweating our butts off at RIDE Indoor Cycling, Lake Travis is lucky to have HCG in our backyard.

Meet Your Tribe at RIDE Indoor Cycling in Lake Travis

If you call RIDE a “spin class,” you’ll quickly be corrected by anyone who is part of the RIDE tribe in the Lake Travis area. Calling it a spin class is like calling a veggie burger a hamburger. To a meat eater.

RIDE Indoor Cycling is located at Hill Country Galleria near Central Plaza. It’s an indoor cycling studio with stationary bikes, but what happens inside is miles from ordinary.

I was lucky enough to give RIDE a whirl with my fit fam of Lake Travis mamas. How could I say no to these ladies?

TerraPurezza brings the Pedernales Farmer’s Market to Lake Travis

When I first reached out to the husband and wife team of Tina and Orion Weldon, they were busy rotating their pigs. But hey, when you run a local farm, that’s what you do.

The Weldon’s own and operate TerraPurezza Regenerative Agriculture Institute and Farm located in Spicewood. Tina’s sister Karina is a co-owner and partner with them.

If you’re unfamiliar with the terminology, regenerative agriculture means they use a collection of techniques to produce food while rehabilitating soil health, rebuilding native grasslands, and restoring natural water cycles. Livestock is pasture raised and rotationally graze on native grasses. They also focus on endangered heritage breeds like Red Wattle hogs from Texas, and Gloucestershire Old Spots from England.

Their vision for changing the way food is produced and how farmers relate to the land has guided them to their newest endeavor — Pedernales Farmer’s Market. In fact, TerraPurezza hosted the market for the first time last Sunday.

With support from their partner restaurant, Apis Restaurant & Apiary, and other local vendors, TerraPurezza is bringing a long-time dream to fruition.

Actually, make that two dreams.
