Lake Travis Area Weekend Events: February 27th – March 1st

Written by Todd Hower | February 27, 2015

LTL Weekend Feb27 2015

It has been a cold week in the Lake Travis area and we’re hoping for the weather to warm up and clear up for the weekend. That’s because it’s a lot more fun to make the trip to the big city and fly your kite at the 86th Annual Zilker Park Kite Festival when it’s sunny and warm. Chances for rain on Sunday are pretty good, so if Mother Nature refuses to cooperate (again!) a rain date is scheduled for March 8th.

There are a couple of rain or shine events to check out this weekend including our worth-the-trip Braunfest in New Braunfels. Or stay closer to home and get some exercise this Sunday at Run for a Purpose 5K and KidsK taking place through the rolling hills of Lakeway. Sign up to run or show up to cheer and help fight lung cancer.

We hope to see you (and the sun) out and about this weekend!

All Star Burger: The Place Where Burgers Are Best

Written by Addi Hower | February 26, 2015

All Star Burger

Submitted to our Just For Kids section by 10 year old Lake Travis area local, Addi Hower.

Do you crave a good burger?

If you do, I know where to go — All Star Burger! It’s located in the Hill Country Galleria at 12921 Hill Country Boulevard #105 Bee Cave,TX 78738.

If you are a non-meat eater, don’t stop reading! They have vegan and vegetarian options too that are just as good. They also have great drinks. Plus ice cream, and the most amazing milkshakes you’ve ever tasted! I remember the time I got a cookies and cream milkshake there. They have that flavor, and many more. They always have great flavors!

Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in Llano: Coming Soon to Austin

Written by Mandy Spivey | February 25, 2015

Cooper's BBQ

“It’s all about the meat.”

You know you’re in the mood for barbeque when you wake up from smelling it in your dreams, prompting you to drive over 60 miles out to the Texas Barbeque Belt to get your meat-loving fix before all of the brisket sells out.

Luckily, at Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in Llano, the pits are as large as they are smoky, so the meats just seem to keep coming.

My first time to Cooper’s was on my way back from a road trip from West Texas, hungry from being on the road 7+ hours and in a literal and virtual food desert for hundreds of miles. It was already evening, and in my barbeque experience that means one thing — the good meats are probably sold out. Tired and weary from my drive, I headed in hungrily, only to be greeted by smiling faces and full pits of smoky brisket, jalapeno sausage, chicken, perfectly smoked ribs and pretty much any meat I could hope for.

Solid Rock Brewing Saturday Evening Tap Room

Written by Mandy Spivey | February 23, 2015

Grab a pint at Solid Rock

You’re never too far from a great place to grab a pint or two when you’re in the Lake Travis area. Lately I’ve noticed breweries expanding their tap rooms, making for some very interesting evenings at places like Jester King, Oasis Texas Brewing Company and Solid Rock Brewing.

When you’re thirsty and find yourself in the Spicewood area, take a turn down Bee Creek Road and continue on for a couple of miles. On the left just behind a few rows of mesquite trees you’ll find Solid Rock Brewing, one of the newer breweries to spring up in the Texas Hill Country.

On a typical Saturday night you can drive up to the brewery and grab yourself a parking spot on their spare land, then head up to their warehouse for a chance to grab a pint of their newest brews, straight from the brewers themselves. It’s a weekend tradition that has quickly grown in popularity, which I found out firsthand last weekend.

Lake Travis Area Weekend Events: February 20th – February 22nd

LTL Weekend Feb20

Live music and events in Lake Travis? Why yes, we have that! Things are a little bit slower around here during the colder months, but you can always find live music and something to do in this beautiful place that we get to call home.

After a week of running your kids around to various sporting activities and play dates, drop them off at Rolly Pollies in Bee Cave for a Parents Night Out. The weather on Saturday should be perfect for a road trip out to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area and the first annual Enchanted Rock Star Party. Or make the trip to McDade for the 6th Annual Sherwood Forest Faire. The Blue Man Group will be at The Long Center all weekend and that’s a show you don’t want to miss. Check out more things to do outside in Lake Travis for inspiration.

It looks like we have until Sunday before the next cold front rolls into town so get out there and enjoy the warm!
