Be Healthy Lake Travis and Rexanna’s Foundation present the 5th Annual Run for a Purpose 5K and KidsK on Sunday, March 6, 2016 in Lakeway.
This event fuels the fight against lung cancer, in honor of Rexanna Hawkins, a Lake Travis Middle School Athletic Director and non-smoker.
Run for a Purpose is a wonderful opportunity for families, friends, neighbors, cancer survivors and lung cancer advocates to support an important cause, as well as the local Lake Travis community.
Many of the race coordinators and participants hold this event dear to their hearts because of their friendship with Rexanna, whose story is widely known throughout Lake Travis and Austin.
Rexanna, a nonsmoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2006.
She spent her career working as the Lake Travis Athletic Director at Lake Travis Middle School for 18 years. She also worked at school districts in Abilene and Refugio, Texas coaching girls volleyball, track and golf.
During her courageous fight against lung cancer, one of the most fatal and underfunded cancers, her bravery and determination inspired others, from her students to the cancer specialists she met during her treatment at MD Anderson.
Holly Johnson, the race director of Run for a Purpose and the secretary of Be Healthy Lake Travis, a local non-profit dedicated to promoting health and wellness in the community, says everyone involved in Run for a Purpose is genuinely committed to saving lives:
One of the great things about Run for a Purpose is we are all volunteers with a real desire to help the community. We are proud that over 90% of the proceeds from this race go directly to MD Anderson Cancer Center and the funds stay in Texas. Families should feel great about participating because they are making a positive impact on many levels!
Run for a Purpose Details
Run for a Purpose takes place in Lakeway on a challenging, but fun course along Highlands Boulevard in the Rough Hollow community.
The KidsK begins at 8am (all of the kiddos get a medal!) and the 5K for adults starts at 8:30am.
Thanks to help from volunteers, children will have supervision with fun activities like face painting and temporary tattoos, so parents can participate in the race.
There will be water along the course, pre and post race snacks, raffle prizes from local vendors and more.
Register today and support an important cause in the Lake Travis community and beyond.

i just wanted to SAY THANKS to Lake Travis Lifestyle for the publicity and helping us fight lung cancer!
Come on out or make a donation to help us fight lung cancer for those that lost the battle. We strive to help all that are fighting for breath! Thank you for our partnership this year with BeHealthy Lake Travis!
A big “Thank You” to Lake Travis Lifestyle, Todd and Cathy for helping us spread the word of our event. Being volunteer-run, and 100% non-profit, we really do depend on the support and generosity of others to help us make our event a success! I have no doubt that with continued efforts like that of Rexanna’s Foundation and Be Healthy Lake Travis that a cure WILL be found.
