LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: November 2-4, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | November 1, 2018

When you crave this Halloween treat …

It’s not candy corn. This is the Halloween candy Texans love.

When you pass the test …

Drink your tap water freely. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality gave Austin water the all clear. The city-wide boil water notice ended on Sunday, October 29.

When you wish you lived in Arizona …

But you don’t. It’s time to turn your clock back this weekend. And this is how we feel about that.

When you can’t cross the road …

Call these Steiner Ranch sisters. Their mission got the attention of transportation leaders. They hope to inspire other young people to take action.

When you need a new mattress …

You might have to drive farther. Mattress Firm increased the number of stores it plans to close in the Austin area.

When you can’t finish your burger …

Not cool. The Lakeway Whataburger was evacuated for a bomb threat on Tuesday.

When you exchange Tootsie Rolls for toys …

It’s Candy Buy-Back time at Learning Express Toys in the Hill Country Galleria from November 1-4. Exchange one pound of candy loot for one Toy Buck (maximum five pounds).

When you want to expand your turf …

Open up a sports complex. On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale talked about the plan for the Bee Creek Sports Complex.

LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: October 12-14, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | October 11, 2018

When you like your brew with a view …

Craft beer on Lake Travis. Cheers! Thanks to Brian Baker for this sunset pic. He entered our sunset photo contest, and you can enter too.

When you put the “pro” in produce …

Did you know the Dripping Springs farmers market is ranked number one in the state of Texas and 7th in the nation?

If you want to visit the Dripping Springs Farmers Market, it is open every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A couple of other farmers markets ranked as well: The Texas Farmers Market at Lakeline in Cedar Park ranked 13th, and the Texas Farmers Market at Mueller came in at number 20.

When your last name rhymes with what you do …

The freshman from Lake Travis makes it look easy and does this.

When you have big hair …

You need more space. Brian Charles Hair Studio in Steiner Ranch is celebrating its five-year anniversary and just added a bunch of space to their location.

When neighbors don’t wanna rock …

Spicewood residents have the opportunity to speak out against the proposed rock quarry this Thursday because the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is holding a public hearing.

When glossophobia is to blame …

On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale shared a little civics lesson about speaking up locally.

Lake Travis Lifestyle Weekend Roundup: February 3-5, 2017

Written by Todd Hower | February 3, 2017

LTL Weekend May 20 2016

February is here and so is this weekend!

Let’s get this Super Bowl LI party started with a look at your weekend ahead and — in case you missed us — a look back at what went on this past week.

Good news if you like to see things start greening up around here. Bob the armadillo did not see his shadow at the West Pole, so spring is right around the corner!

It’s your last week to find those sunglasses you lost and see Lake Austin without water before the LCRA starts filling it back up on Thursday, February 9th.

New places are getting ready to open this spring in the Oaks at Lakeway, and it looks like a burger joint will be up next. On Wednesday, we posted a sneak peak of the brand new Austin-born, barnhouse-themed Hat Creek Burger Co.

Start your weekend with a goodbye to Orka. And then get ready to watch some really expensive commercials with some football in between. Have a lovely weekend, all!

22nd Annual Lake Travis Underwater & Shoreline Cleanup

Written by Todd Hower | September 9, 2016

Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup

It all started when a group of scuba divers in the Lake Travis area decided to make a difference. Instead of getting together for a recreational dive, they decided to get together for a day of pulling trash out from the waters of Lake Travis.

A few years later, the LCRA and the Colorado River Foundation decided to get on-board and help out with boat support and proper disposal of all the trash the divers had collected from the depths of the lake.

Because the waters of Lake Travis are constantly fluctuating, large amounts of trash become exposed during times of low water levels. Keep Austin Beautiful and Travis County joined forces and the Lake Travis shoreline was added to the cleanup effort. They helped organize the hundreds of volunteers that were ready to make a difference to one of the most valuable resources in the Lake Travis area.

Lago Fest and Austin Yacht Club’s Turnback Canyon Regatta: Great Fun at Bar-K Park

Written by Sandra Spicher | June 1, 2016

LagoFest2016-05-29-Sailboats

If you happened to glance at Lake Travis on Saturday or Sunday, you might have wondered what was going on. Sure, it was Memorial Day weekend. Makes sense for people to flock to the lake. But why all the sailboats?

For the first time in years, the weather cooperated enough to hold a two-day race the Austin Yacht Club calls the Turnback Canyon Regatta. One sailor, whose team came in fourth in his division Saturday, explained that there has to be enough water in the cove at Bar-K Park to allow the sailboats to tie up overnight.

You may recall the Memorial Day weekend of 2015, when there was too much water (not to mention debris) to hold the race.
