It’s time for the fanciest semi-annual garage sale of all, Le Garage Sale. More than 70 local boutiques, designers and shops will be participating including Lake Travis faves like Adorn and Fab’rik, as well as other fashionista destinations like Beehive, Estilo, Exit 82 Art, Limbo Jewelry (our Jan. giveaway partner!), Sikara & Co. and Raven & Lilly just to name a few.
A $10 ticket gets you in the door, so you’d better have your game face on. This event is all about current fall/winter fashions and there are racks and racks of awesome finds. Shoppers tend to start lining up HOURS before the doors open to get their hands on the best bargains. That’s how serious Austinites take Le Garage. In addition to clothing, you’ll find all kinds of accessories from jewelry to bags to shoes to scarves and home decor — and everything in between!
If you’ve ever been to Le Garage, you know that the dressing room situation, or lack thereof, makes for an interesting shopping experience. You’ll quickly learn that women are willing to strip down for discounted designer threads. Some stores set up a change room area, but since most of them don’t, women tend to change right in the middle of the racks — in the middle of Palmer Events Center! Like they say on the website, unless you’re comfy “le nu,” you probably want to wear a bathing suit, workout gear or modest lingerie.
This celebration of independent Austin retailers is a win-win for everyone involved. The retailers can pass on terrific savings to happy shoppers and make room in their stores for new merchandise without the fuss of leftovers from last season or overstock. Don’t let the name fool you. It may be a “garage” sale, but the Le Garage Sale event is dedicated to curating an amazing selection of boutiques, not just filling the event center with stuff.
If you want to experience the thrill of the hunt for yourself, but you’re looking for a more leisurely vibe, check out Le Garage later in the afternoon. The crowds have usually subsided a bit and vendors tend to restock, so you’ll still find plenty of goodies. You can buy tickets on Eventbrite or at the door.
Which vendor booth are you headed to first?
