Lakeway Dermatology Opens in Bee Cave

Written by Mandy Spivey | April 12, 2016

Lakeway Dermatology

One of the charms of living in the Lake Travis area is being able to see local businesses grow and expand.

Just take a drive down 620 for the newest in restaurants, trendy boutiques and private practices that are flourishing in Lakeway and Bee Cave to see proof that the Lake Travis area is growing.

When you’re looking for the answer to a skin problem, don’t forget the team at Lakeway Dermatology to point you in the right direction. You might have noticed their brand new building just next to Salsa’s restaurant near Falconhead.

A New Home

Starting from the ground up, the owner of the practice Dr. Mary Cunningham designed, built and decorated the new state-of-the-art dermatology building to better meet the growing needs of Lake Travis.

A local doctor who has been working in the Lake Travis area for nearly 15 years, Dr. Cunningham has worked for months to transform her skin practice, having a say in every detail along the way. On-site laboratories and new pristine treatment rooms make the practice one of the most well-equipped private practices in the Lake Travis area.

A newer physician to the practice, MD Dr. Gavino specializes in treating hair loss, training with specialists all over the country to bring the best treatments back to Texas. His passion for dermatology is very evident, and he’s trained to handle all kinds of skin conditions, cosmetic issues and pediatric cases.

Practice Administrator Kim LaBruzza and Dr. Gavino sat down with me to tell their story of the transition from their original spot in Lakeway near the Gracy Title building on RR 620 to their current spot.

“This building was Dr. Cunningham’s dream, and we were kind of bursting at the seams. We overflowed from one suite into two suites, and she maintained that for several years and decided to just go for it,” Kim explained as we toured the many new treatment rooms around the facilities.

From the moment you walk in to Lakeway Dermatology you get the true sense that you’re going to be pampered, even if what you’re visiting the office for is less than exciting.

And when you’re interested in aesthetic services, The Derm Boutique is still being filled out with some of the most advanced take home skin treatments and make up products on the market.

Aestheticians assist with complexion matching and finding that perfect shade for your skin, as well as addressing any issues you might have. All injections are done by board certified doctors, and physicians are always on-hand to handle complications or problems, from Rosacea to abnormal moles and everything in between.

Sun Protection in Lake Travis

And since we live in an area that is known for it’s fun in the sun, one topic that Dr. Gavino wants to educate the community about is sun protection, which can prevent things like skin cancer and even harsh sun burns on those bright Lake Travis days.

“I always tell my patients, ‘If you live in Texas, it doesn’t matter if it’s winter or cloudy or rainy, we get sun,'” Dr. Gavino mentions as we talk about the dangers of sun cancer and how a professional set of eyes is the best way to tell if a mole or spot is something to be worried about or not.

In the meantime, the team at Lakeway Dermatology is ready to help you block the sun, from topical sun screens that you can’t buy at the supermarket, to tips on how to keep your skin looking great for years to come.

And when you have a serious skin problem, you want a professional with years of training to be your advocate, along with a team dedicated to eradicating issues such as cancer, Actinic Karatosis and abnormal growths.

“I think when it comes to skin, the extensive training that dermatologists undergo — there is a lot to be said,” Dr. Gavino relates as we talk about the dangers of sun exposure. Early detection is key, and the eyes at Lakeway Dermatology know what to look for, in addition to having their advanced labs on site to be able to take skin samples.

After opening their doors on March 2, 2016, the practice has been booming and seeing people for all types of skin conditions. From treating acne to traditional cosmetic services you’d expect to get at the dermatologist, the physicians at Lakeway Dermatology have you covered.
