Cultivate Behavioral Health & Education: Supporting Lake Travis’ Autism Community

Written by Cathy Hale | April 18, 2018

From the moment you find out you’re going to be a parent or a grandparent, you wish for one thing — a healthy baby. And most of the time, that’s what you get.

But once in a while, your dreams are momentarily sidelined by an unexpected illness, disease or disability. When it comes to autism, the symptoms can be sneaky and hard to identify until your baby is older.

Even for the most optimistic parent, an autism diagnosis is heartbreaking. You have a beautiful, sweet baby diagnosed with a life-long disability. Your heart aches, your brain is frantic …

Now what?

Now Open in Lake Travis: Magpie Blossom Boutique, Bon Japanese Cuisine

Written by Cathy Hale | March 7, 2018

For the past year, we’ve been reporting about new restaurants, shops and businesses headed to the Lake Travis area.

Now for the fun part — what’s open for business?

Slowly but surely, the messy construction clears — making way for convenient new spots to eat, drink, shop, relax and enjoy life near the lake. If you haven’t noticed, Gateway to Falconhead located at Ranch Road 620 S. & Falconhead Blvd. is ready for business.

Two of the first tenants to open their doors are Magpie, LT’s favorite blossom boutique, and a newcomer to Lake Travis, Bon Japanese Cuisine (sushi!).

Lake Travis Mompreneur Gina Provopulos is Reinventing Holiday and Floral Decor

Written by Cathy Hale | February 8, 2018

When you see a beautiful floral centerpiece, you might say, “Wow, that’s pretty!”

When you see a centerpiece designed by Gina, you’ll say, “OMG! I CAN’T EVEN BELIEVE IT!?! HOW DID SHE DO THAT?! QUICK, GRAB MY CAMERA! CALL ALL OF MY FRIENDS AND TELL THEM TO COME OVER AND SEE THIS! (Then your brain explodes with glee.)

Gina Provopulos — you can call her Gina P. — creates some of the most magical, over-the-top and fabulous decorations for all sorts of events in the Lake Travis area. And she’s been doing it for years. Lake Travis residents first experienced Gina’s gift for decor when she would decorate her kiddo’s classrooms for parties and special events.

Lakeway Elementary school parents may remember the jaw-dropping moment of walking into a classroom Gina decorated for a Christmas party. We aren’t talking a few balloons, and some decorations like you’d expect at classroom soiree — we’re talking fabric draped over each little desk chair with coordinating ribbons and ornaments hanging from the ceiling.

And then there’s the 80-foot magnolia leaf garland Gina made for one of the LWE fundraisers. Sure, she had to climb up and down a 7-foot ladder a million times to cut the leaves down, weave them and then hang them back up, but in Gina’s world, that’s no biggie.

Now imagine what this kind of creativity could look like in your home? W-O-W.

Meet Your Tribe at RIDE Indoor Cycling in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | October 12, 2017

If you call RIDE a “spin class,” you’ll quickly be corrected by anyone who is part of the RIDE tribe in the Lake Travis area. Calling it a spin class is like calling a veggie burger a hamburger. To a meat eater.

RIDE Indoor Cycling is located at Hill Country Galleria near Central Plaza. It’s an indoor cycling studio with stationary bikes, but what happens inside is miles from ordinary.

I was lucky enough to give RIDE a whirl with my fit fam of Lake Travis mamas. How could I say no to these ladies?

Besides, I work out.

How hard could it be …
