I Used H-E-B Curbside in Lake Travis and Here’s What Happened

Written by Cathy Hale | January 11, 2018

When it comes to grocery shopping, I believe there are two types of people. There’s the happy-gourmet who loves to cook, “dabble” with new recipes, use fresh spices and leisurely stroll through the grocery store marveling at leafy green vegetables. It’s a culinary adventure!

Then there’s me …

I’m always in a rush, so my goal is to zip through the aisles at an efficient pace — no time for small talk or tasting samples or reading labels — whatever I touch goes in the cart. If I accidentally pick up heavy whipping cream instead of milk, oh well. Grocery shopping is like a military strike — I need to get in and get out quickly with minimal causalities.

Over the past few months, my friends have been chirping about “curbside,” and how wonderful it is. Chalk it up to a New Year’s resolution, but I finally gave H-E-B Curbside Grocery Pickup a spin this week. If you’re already a Curbside groupie, perhaps you have some helpful tips for us newbies?

If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s how it works …

Steel Magnolia Marketplace Celebrates Women, Friendship & Southern Charm

Written by Cathy Hale | December 14, 2017

Just in time for holiday shopping in the Lake Travis area, Lakeway’s newest gift shop, Steel Magnolia Marketplace is officially open for business. The boutique is beautifully curated with all sort of swoon-worthy gifts from jewelry and baby clothes to soy candles and stationery.

Oh, the storefront window with those crystal chandeliers! Uh-maze-ing.

What makes this store unique is the movie that inspired it — Steel Magnolias — is subtly woven throughout. Think of it as a living tribute to the 1989 classic. Just like the movie epitomized the bond of female friendships with a twist of timeless humor and a love of all things Southern, so does Steel Magnolia Marketplace.

Hill Country Galleria: 10 Years in Lake Travis, Halloween & Trampolines

Written by Cathy Hale | October 19, 2017

Did you know Hill Country Galleria has been our neighbor for ten years?

The mall opened on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, with 35 retailers. Today the 1.3 million-square-foot entertainment, shopping and dining destination is a staple in the Lake Travis community with nearly 100 retailers. And they’re celebrating their 10th anniversary this weekend.

We love HCG for hosting annual events like SpringFest, the Tree Lighting, and Santa’s Arrival. We love the monthly wine walks and all of the live music. Whether you’re shopping cool toys at Learning Express, savoring a delicious bite at ALLSTAR Burger or sweating our butts off at RIDE Indoor Cycling, Lake Travis is lucky to have HCG in our backyard.

In honor of this milestone, we’re taking a look at what’s buzzing at Hill Country Galleria including new pop-up shops and party plans. If you’re a longtime LT-er, test your HCG knowledge with a trivia question at the end of this article.

TerraPurezza brings the Pedernales Farmer’s Market to Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | October 5, 2017

When I first reached out to the husband and wife team of Tina and Orion Weldon, they were busy rotating their pigs. But hey, when you run a local farm, that’s what you do.

The Weldon’s own and operate TerraPurezza Regenerative Agriculture Institute and Farm located in Spicewood. Tina’s sister Karina is a co-owner and partner with them.

If you’re unfamiliar with the terminology, regenerative agriculture means they use a collection of techniques to produce food while rehabilitating soil health, rebuilding native grasslands, and restoring natural water cycles. Livestock is pasture raised and rotationally graze on native grasses. They also focus on endangered heritage breeds like Red Wattle hogs from Texas, and Gloucestershire Old Spots from England.

Their vision for changing the way food is produced and how farmers relate to the land has guided them to their newest endeavor — Pedernales Farmer’s Market. In fact, TerraPurezza hosted the market for the first time last Sunday.

With support from their partner restaurant, Apis Restaurant & Apiary, and other local vendors, TerraPurezza is bringing a long-time dream to fruition.

Actually, make that two dreams.

Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery Opens in Oaks at Lakeway

Written by Mandy Spivey | March 29, 2017

“Every painting is a voyage into a sacred harbour.” – Giotto di Bondone

Art inspires.

Art transports.

Art elevates the space it inhabits, bringing with it a connection between artist and viewer.

Lake Travis has a new gallery on the scene to take in and enjoy, exhibiting some of the finest paintings, sculptures, and even jewelry to a growing clientele.

Spending an afternoon perusing fine art at Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery, you might feel more like you’re on the Upper West Side than in the Oaks at Lakeway. Where Austin severely lacked fine art, gallery owner Lisa Russell sources and delivers to the Lake Travis area.

It’s a labor of love that started when Russell first came to Austin over  a decade ago, bringing along her fine sense of taste.
