Lake Travis Area Mountain Biking: Steiner Ranch

Written by Todd Hower | September 4, 2013

Steiner Ranch Mountain Biking

Did you know that you don’t have to live in the mountains to enjoy mountain biking?

Moving to Austin from the mountains of Colorado, I was surprised as anyone to discover an incredible system of mountain biking trails all over Austin and the surrounding Hill Country. You might be surprised when you discover that some of the best riding is right here in your own backyard!

There are miles and miles of mountain bike trails in the Lake Travis area. Some of the best neighborhood riding is located in the master-planned community of Steiner Ranch. There are over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails winding through the hills and canyons of Steiner Ranch.

Eat A Better Burger at All Star Burger

Written by Todd Hower | September 3, 2013

All Star Burger

There have been quite a few burger joints opening up in the Lake Travis area over the past few years. All Star Burger came on the scene and quickly developed a reputation that lives up to their slogan, “Eat a Better Burger.”

The owner, Shane Street, set out to differentiate this restaurant from the typical burger joint by offering Better Ingredients. With a commitment to use beef that never, ever had any artificial growth hormones or antibiotics, and by supporting local farms and vendors, you’ll quickly realize that local and fresh is better.

All Star Burger is located in the Hill Country Galleria on the west side by Dillard’s. The parking spots that line both sides of the main drag are pretty limited. If nothing opens up, just go around the corner to the large rear parking lot. No matter where you park, you’ll find an entrance conveniently located on either side of the restaurant.

After you place your order, you’ll find plenty of seating options from family friendly tables and booths to large group style tables. The dining area is large enough that tables are spaced nicely. The location at the end of a line of shops offers plenty of window seats and natural light.

The All Star Burger main menu consists of a variety of hand-crafted burgers, farmers market salads, house chips, and old school or sweet potato fries. If you’re looking to go lite or take a break from meat, try the super salad topped off with the hemp seed patty or go “skinny style” with the lettuce-wrap option. Most burgers and salads are priced under $9. The Five Islands Ahi Tuna Burger tops the list at $11. Little ones can choose from a burger, grilled cheese or grilled PB&J.

Labor Day 2013

Are you ready for a break after the first week of school in the Lake Travis area? It’s almost like the school calendar was planned knowing that you would appreciate a three day weekend after this week. The first Monday in September is Labor Day!

What started out as a holiday to keep union workers from getting angry about the Pullman Strike has become the symbolic end of summer. And that means a three day weekend to barbecue, go shopping for Labor Day sales, and watch college football.

It’s also considered by some the last day of the year when it’s fashionable to wear white. So put on your white leisure suit with dancing shoes and get your three day weekend started! Here are a few things going on in the Lake Travis area.

Live Music and Dancing

The Oasis – the Lake Travis original to watch the sun go down. After the colors fade and it cools down a bit, head over to the Starlight Terrace for dancing.

The Lake Travis Area Weekend – Outdoor Movies, Arts, Live Music

Written by Todd Hower | August 15, 2013

Sandy beach with word Weekend written on sand

The triple digits are upon us. Last weekend was quite the scorcher! It’s funny how a little break from the 100 plus temps – like mid 90’s – can feel so much better. And this weekends forecast for the Lake Travis area is looking like the mercury could stay out of the dreaded triple digit zone.

Find yourself some shade and head out to enjoy the last days of summer before school starts! Here are a few things to do this weekend in the Lake Travis area.

Movie Night Under The Stars

Kick your weekend off this Friday night with a movie under the stars. Movie Night at the Glenn Theatre starts at 7:30p. Come dressed as your favorite movie character and enjoy live music by Alex Moorman and a showing of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Overall, this PG rated movie is pretty clean. Get more details at the IMDB Parents Guide for Fantastic Mr. Fox.
