Are you ready for a break after the first week of school in the Lake Travis area? It’s almost like the school calendar was planned knowing that you would appreciate a three day weekend after this week. The first Monday in September is Labor Day!
What started out as a holiday to keep union workers from getting angry about the Pullman Strike has become the symbolic end of summer. And that means a three day weekend to barbecue, go shopping for Labor Day sales, and watch college football.
It’s also considered by some the last day of the year when it’s fashionable to wear white. So put on your white leisure suit with dancing shoes and get your three day weekend started! Here are a few things going on in the Lake Travis area.
Live Music and Dancing
The Oasis – the Lake Travis original to watch the sun go down. After the colors fade and it cools down a bit, head over to the Starlight Terrace for dancing.
Friday 8/30 – Reunion
Saturday 8/31 – Atlantics
Steiner Ranch Steakhouse – another one of the top places in the Lake Travis area for sunsets, live music, and dancing. Here’s the weekend line-up:
Friday 8/30 – Paula Nelson
Saturday 8/31 – London Calling
Carlos’ n Charlie’s – The local media is calling attention to the drought and low lake levels. Reviews on Yelp offer a different perspective. Maybe it’s a combination of both. Either way, the owners are calling it quits after 18 years on Lake Travis. The final goodbye party is happening this Labor Day weekend with live music by Rat Ranch all weekend long.
Stop by on Monday, September 2 for the live auction starting at 2:00 pm if you want to bid on Carlos’ n Charlie’s memorabilia.
In Need of a Laugh
Wrap up the summer with a close to home vacation at the Lakeway Resort and Spa. They have the weekend filled with family activities including swimming, water-slides, movies at the pool, and more.
