High 5 Has Arrived in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | January 11, 2016

The day has finally arrived! Lake Travisites, are you ready?

High 5, the only family entertainment center in the Lake Travis area opens today at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Can we get a community-wide round of applause?

Over the weekend, High 5 hosted soft grand opening events and VIP parties — and we were lucky enough to attend. What a treat!

If you haven’t stepped into a brand spankin’ new arcade before, it’s rather intoxicating. In fact, you may be so enamored with the brightly-colored shiny games that you forget there’s bowling and laser tag. And lots more!

Coats for Kids: The Journey of Donated Coats & the Joy of Giving Back

Written by Cathy Hale | December 17, 2015

You may already be familiar with the Junior League of Austin’s annual coat drive, Coats for Kids. It’s an amazing initiative that has been providing children and teens in Central Texas with warm winter coats for 29 years.

On December 12, 2015, Junior League of Austin distributed 35,000 winter coats to thousands of families who needed coats for their children.

Have you ever wondered how your donated coats find their way to deserving children? We did. So this year we took a behind-the-scenes look to figure out how the magic works. And some sweet Lake Travis youngsters helped us out.

Hill Country Galleria Improvements Coming in 2016: H&M and Centralized Dining

Written by Cathy Hale | December 7, 2015

Can you name five stores in the Hill Country Galleria?

According to a recent survey, many of you that live in the Lake Travis area don’t know — or didn’t know — the retailers located in your own backyard.

In fact, when you were asked for a list of ten retailers you’d like to see in the Hill Country Galleria, three of the ten you named were already there.

You may have seen the article in Community Impact that highlighted some of the shopping habits of Lake Travis area residents. According to research conducted by the owners of Hill Country Galleria, consumers within a 30-minute drive of Bee Cave spent $222 million on food and beverage outside the area in 2014. That means you were probably shopping at Barton Creek Mall, Neiman Marcus Last Call and dining downtown.

But what you might not know is this translates to a revenue loss of more than $3 million to the city of Bee Cave.

Hmmm. So we spend money, but we don’t spend it here. Or at least we didn’t in 2014.

Will a $16m investment to improve the Hill Country Galleria change our spending habits?
