Lake Travis Lifestyle July Giveaway: 2-Hour Boat Rental from Lakeway Marina

Written by Cathy Hale | July 13, 2016

In honor of summertime fun, we’re excited to partner with a local business that has been providing exactly that for more than 50 years — Lakeway Marina. One lucky Lake Travis Lifestyle email subscriber will win a free 2-hour boat rental which includes the use of a runabout, pontoon boat or WaveRunner.

As you can imagine, Lakeway Marina has been hopping this summer thanks to steady lake levels and a busy Lakeway Resort that sits above the marina. Did you know a “full” Lake Travis equals 382,092,882,600 gallons of water? Wow!

Lost dog? Electrician? Piano lessons? Connecting with Your Lake Travis Neighbors

Written by Cathy Hale | June 30, 2016

Do you need a handy man who can hang that heavy mirror over the sofa in your living room?

Did a cute kitty wander up to your front door without a collar?

Did you just buy a new home with a pond and you’re wondering how to maintain it?

Did you spot a bobcat or mountain lion in your yard?

Is your sprinkler system on the fritz?

Every so often we need to exchange information with our neighbors because they “get it” — they live here too.

Although it seems like a nifty idea, you can’t really roam the neighborhood with a megaphone shouting, “I need a reliable plumber!” or “I just saw a snake! Who can tell me that quote about ‘red touch yellow, kill a fellow?!?'”

This is when social media networks and Facebook groups for neighborhoods come in handy.

Outdoors in Lake Travis: 23 Things You Might Not Know About Mosquitoes

Written by Cathy Hale | May 23, 2016

It’s summertime in the Lake Travis area when uninvited guests start crashing your backyard barbecues — and we don’t mean those annoying neighbors that play their music too loud after 10 p.m. We’re talking about bloodsuckers of the winged variety. Mosquitoes.

As you probably remember from last spring, the rain and wet weather brings us more than just a full Lake Travis. It brings lots and lots of mosquitoes. To borrow a line from Poltergeist, “They’re heeeere!”

Do you know mosquitoes may ignore you if you’re lazy? Do you know girls do run the world when it comes to mosquitoes? Yep, the female mosquitoes bite, not the males. They need blood to produce fertile eggs. Male insects live off of nectar.

Here are 23 things you might not know about mosquitoes including tips to help you protect yourself and your family against these local bloodsuckers …

Hill Country Indoor Bringing Family-Focused Sports & Recreation to Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | May 19, 2016

If you’ve driven along Bee Cave Parkway and noticed a huge building under construction atop the hill next to Bee Cave Central Park and The Backyard, that’s the new home to Hill Country Indoor, an indoor private sports & recreation center with a live local attitude.

The core team of Hill Country Indoor includes Jeff Kent (a former MLB all-star), Josh McKay, Jeff Spiller, Chris Lupton, and PJ Todd. They all live right here in the Lake Travis area and have families here too. They understand the important and beneficial role sports can play in a family and they also understand the drawbacks.

That being said, their goal is not just to build a state-of-the-art facility for sports and recreation, but to ease the challenges families face of trying to be in two, three or four places at once.

By providing an indoor venue for sports, camps, tournaments and leagues, HCI hopes to offer you a local option, so you won’t have to scarf down dinner in the car halfway across town heading to practice, while the rest of your family is elsewhere doing the exact same thing. HCI decided to bring all of “that” here to one community hub and they’ve spent years making it a reality.
