Cheers Y’all! Celebrating National Margarita Day in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | February 22, 2017

On the heels of National Pizza Day, we get to celebrate a very Texas-y cocktail — the margarita!

That’s right folks, today is National Margarita Day! In Texas, this delightful drink concoction is a daisy, perhaps quite literally.

According to historians, our beloved margarita evolved from popular drinks in the 1930s and 40s like gin daisies and the whisky daisies. Thanks to our Mexican ancestors, the original recipe — tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and a splash of soda — found a new name. In fact, margarita is Spanish for daisy flower.

So who’s ready to “cheers” to this sweet and sour elixir boasting the perfect tequila-to-lime ratio in a salt-rimmed glass?

Written by Cathy Hale | February 8, 2017

If enjoying tasty Italian fair is on your appetite’s To-Do list, Trattoria Toscano in Oaks at Lakeway says, “Benvenuto!”  The restaurant opened in September 2016, so it’s still relatively new to the Lake Travis area.

While Trattoria Toscano may be new, its lineage is not. It’s locally owned and operated by the same folks who own Brick Oven Red River, Brick Oven at the Arboretum, Baretto, and Siena.

Let’s just say they know how to deliver a rustic Tuscan dining experience.

Oaks at Lakeway Update: Sneak Peek at Hat Creek Burger Co.

Written by Cathy Hale | February 1, 2017

Nope, that’s not gonna be a car wash.

That’s the brand new Austin-born, barnhouse-themed Hat Creek Burger Co. on track to open in Oaks at Lakeway in March 2017.

If you’ve driven by the construction site at 1620 S. RR 620, you’ve see the progress. And it’s pretty darn exciting.

The innovative architecture and elevation is the Hat Creek way. You can see the inspiration at every location. A distinctive barn-like design with a structure that soars into the clouds. Covered porches and inviting spaces where families can relax and enjoy a good meal together.

Hat Creek is like a restaurant-meets-play-yard-meets-picnic-area-meets-patio. It’s indoor and outdoor and then indoor again. You’ll just have to wait and see. Trust us, it’s cool.

What’s So Great About North Austin? Let’s Pfigure It Out.

Written by Cathy Hale | January 25, 2017

Lakeway to Lake Travis view

There’s big news about big retailers coming to the Austin area in 2017. More specifically, our neighbors to the north — Pflugerville and Cedar Park.

If you’ve listened to the rumblings, you may have heard that Costco was coming to the Lake Travis area.

The Hill Country has been dreaming about welcoming a luxury retailer like Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus or Neiman’s Last Call or Saks OFF 5th. Do they wanna try a Saks OFF 6th concept? We’re open to that.

And remember when we heard the sad and shocking news that our beloved Nutty Brown Cafe was relocating to — wait for it — Round Rock?

It seems like North Austin is the cool kid wearing Tractr skinny jeans and Lake Travis is the awkward adolescent wearing Hunt Club jorts. What gives?

What’s so great about our polar pals?
