Burglary Prevention Tips with Mary Smothers of Security Consultant Pros

Written by Sandra Spicher | September 29, 2016

When Mary Smothers was twenty-one she and her husband had no insurance and no security alarm.

They were renting, so she figured there was no need.

But one day she came home with her six-month-old son on her hip to find her home broken into and belongings piled in the living room. The burglars were still there.

She went to a neighbor’s and waited for police.

Too late; their home was cleaned out. The criminals were never apprehended.

The Cigar Room: Lakeway’s Full Service Cigar Bar

Written by Mandy Spivey | September 28, 2016

We’re seated at the bar for less than 30 seconds when a cheerful bartender appears before us and interrupts our thoughts …

“Can I get you two a drink or a cigar?”

One part cigar bar, one part speakeasy, The Cigar Room in Lakeway is like that warm and familiar bar where you can go to unwind, watch the game, and maybe even make a new friend or two. You always feel taken care of, whether your idea of a relaxing afternoon is sipping an aged Scotch or trying out a new cigar or two.

#TBT Back in the Day in Lake Travis: Piggly Wiggly, Horses & Mudding in Rough Hollow

Written by Cathy Hale | September 22, 2016

“I remember when …” seems to be a common response when you tell someone you reside in the Lake Travis area. There are lots of folks who may not live here now, but fondly remember spending quality time here back in the day.

What’s funny is most of these stories revolve around Randalls. For example …

“I remember when The Chair King was Randalls …”

“I remember when the Randalls was the Lakeway Rodeo.”

Whaaa? There was a rodeo in Lakeway?

“I remember when Randalls was AppleTree.”

Okay, you win!

In order to paint an accurate picture of what the area truly looked like, we consulted with Lake Travis resident, real estate broker, and entrepreneur Cassie Ford. Her family moved to the Lakeway area in 1981 when she was a kid.

If you’re one of those people who likes to wax nostalgic about the glory days of Lake Travis, feel free to help us fill in the blanks with your own memories.

If you’re new to the Lake Travis area, sit back, grab a cup of coffee and take an entertaining journey with us on this Throwback Thursday!

Lake Travis Area Neighborhood Guide: Alta Vista

Written by Cathy Hale | September 15, 2016

Alta Vista is a luxury gated community in the Lake Travis area with sweeping views of the canyons and vistas along the Colorado River. It’s easy to admire the vast beauty of the Texas Hill Country which remains untouched because Alta Vista backs up to the Balcones Canyonland Preserve, a protected portion of land where wildlife thrives.

While other neighborhoods in the Lakeway area like Falconhead and The Hills allow you to enjoy life on the west side of Ranch Road 620, life on the east side is truly breathtaking. The panoramic views extend as far as the eye can see, making Alta Vista a desirable place to call home.

As you enter Alta Vista, you’ll be met by lush vegetation, colorful flowers and spectacular fountains with huge decorative pillars. (Yes, Lake Travis has its own personal Stonehedge.) As you wind down Aria Drive and escape the hustle and bustle of 620, you’ll really start to appreciate the serenity of the hillside. In fact, it’s hard to believe 620 is mere steps away!
