While You Were Away: Lake Travis Summer Recap

We kicked off the summer with lake levels hovering at 660′ in Lake Travis, transforming our drought-stricken lake back to its gorgeous blue self. While the unusually cool and rainy weather continued to snag headlines in June, lots of other exciting stuff was happening in our little slice of the Texas Hill Country.

If you’ve been busy vacationing or simply enjoying lazy summer days (sans devices, we hope!), here’s your Lake Travis summer recap to get you back up to speed on what’s been buzzing in our area.

Lake Travis Area Excursions: Hill Country Wine Tours

Take an hour drive out toward Fredericksburg – almost any route will do – and you’ll soon see indications of one of the more popular ways to enjoy an afternoon just outside the Lake Travis area.

Wineries abound in this part of the Texas Hill Country, and whether you’re a novice or self-proclaimed connoisseur, a day spent tasting the local offerings is a day to enjoy.

A wine tour can be as short and simple or elaborate as you care to make it. You can go with a friend or significant other for the day or plan an entire weekend getaway around the wine tastings.

Lake Travis Area Weekend Roundup: August 7th – August 9th

Hey, happy weekend Lake Travis!

This weekends featured event is one that you’ll have to get up early to catch — consider it good practice for the kids that will be heading back to school in just a couple of weeks. Tempt them with some donuts and make your way to Mansfield Dam Park before the sun comes up to watch the 25th Annual Lake Travis Flight.

It’s also Tax-Free Weekend (August 7-9) and a good time to knock out some back-to-school shopping. The Hill Country Galleria is hosting a back-to-school shopping event this Friday and Saturday. You can have fun shopping tax-free and get a $20 gift card when you spend $100 on back-to-school items.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! It’s the 9th Scoop Austin Ice Cream Festival this Saturday with live music, games, contests and plenty of free ice cream. Don’t miss the ice cream eating contest to see who’s taking home the spoon this year.

Hot Air Balloons Over Lake Travis

You’ll want to set your alarm clock extra early this Saturday for the chance to see a sky full of color over Lake Travis — it’s the 25th Annual Lake Travis Flight.

The Central Texas Ballooning Association plans to launch hot air balloons at sunrise (approximately 6:45am — weather conditions permitting) from Mansfield Dam Park. Allow yourself enough time to grab some donuts, find a parking spot, and check out all the pre-flight sights and sounds.
