Spring Cleaning and Donating in Lake Travis: Organize, Clean and Help a Great Cause

Written by Mandy Spivey | May 13, 2015

Lake Travis Thrift Shop

Ahh Springtime. The time of the year in Texas when the clouds part in the afternoon for a few hours of glorious sunshine — which seems to be why I notice so many cobwebs and extra piles of stuff lying around in the corners of my house. With all of its energy-inducing splendor, you might just get the urge to spruce up your place a bit.

When it’s time to dust off the shelves and reorganize for a more efficient life, look no further than to local area causes to assist in the task.

Little Leaves Clothing Company: Lake Travis Locals Making Sun Protective Clothing for Kids

As summer approaches, Lake Travis residents begin to make our way to the lakes, pools and beaches. We love our fun in the sun! We know to bring our sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. We are not rookies at this. But recently I found out that sun damage can occur within 15 minutes of sun exposure and my family and I should be wearing sunscreen everyday — not just while out on the lake and not just when the sun is out.

So, sunscreen: Every. Single. Day.

As a mom of two young girls, dealing with the “sunscreen battle” is not on my list of favorite things to do at all, let alone every single day (honestly, it is right up there with cleaning toilets and packing lunches). My girls are so wiggly and often I get “IT’S IN MY EYES!” complaint (it really is never in their eyes).

LTL Weekend May082015

Happy Mother’s Day Weekend! You know that Sunday is your day moms, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a pass for the whole weekend?

Alright dads and kids — we’re kind of known for procrastinating — so let’s not try to do all this on Sunday morning. Today is the day to at least get out and buy a card. If you haven’t made any plans, now is a good time to check out our list of Lake Travis Area Spas or book a stay-cation in the Lake Travis area.

If you’re really lucky, you might find a reservation at one of the Best Bets for Mother’s Day Brunch. Be sure to enter our May Giveaway or grab a gift certificate from Bluebird Photography Studio for the perfect Mother’s Day present. Or just get the kids out of the house and give mom a quiet weekend at home.

And don’t forgot to call your mother!

Have a great weekend in and around the Lake Travis area.

Lake Travis Day Trip of the Month: Monument Cafe and Downtown Georgetown

Written by Mandy Spivey | May 7, 2015

Monument Cafe

Recently I was able to finally make the trek out to Monument Cafe, which is a short drive north and just on the edge of downtown Georgetown. The characterful cafe, which launched in 1995 at the hands of Rusty Winkstern, quickly caught on with the locals in the town as one of the best eateries to grab a hearty bite and maybe mingle with the community a bit.

What started as a humble cafe grew into one of the institutions of Georgetown, attracting tourists, professionals, retirees and all sorts of hungry patrons in search of their famed dishes, like chicken-fried steak, sandwiches, migas and omelets.
