Lucy's Fried Chicken Coming to the Lake Travis Area

Written by Cathy Hale | March 10, 2015

LucysFriedChicken

Prepare yourself for mouth-watering news, Lake Travis Lifestyle readers. Late last week, Lucy’s Fried Chicken confirmed that the rumors are indeed true — they’re headed to Lake Travis to share their delicious food and fun vibe with us in the space that was formerly Iguana Grill.

Lucy’s Fried Chicken owner and chef, James Holmes is very excited about this new venture and knows Lake Travis will embrace his wildly popular and funky chicken joint. After all, we’re funky and weird out west too. James is taking full advantage of the sprawling space and plans to add lake-embracing touches like an oyster shucking station, a playground (hallelujah!), a new stage and, of course, an amazing outdoor bar and plenty of seating. They will also revamp the building adjacent to the restaurant to create a functional event space. Nicccce.

Laguna Gloria: History, Art and Nature on Lake Austin

Written by Mandy Spivey | March 9, 2015

Laguna Gloria

There are some things in life that are just better enjoyed outside.

A slow melting ice cream cone on a warm summer afternoon. A run with your favorite pooch after a long day at work. Larger-than-life art that is not only on display in beautiful fields and walking paths but installed on historic Texas land, as well.

The Contemporary Austin Laguna Gloria is home to some of the newest and most cherished contemporary art to come about in recent decades, including works from Marianne Vitale, John Grade and Charles Long. It’s one thing to experience art itself, it’s another to experience it in naturally planned locations, surrounded by bamboo, stories-high palm trees and calming Lake Austin waters.

Lake Travis Area Weekend Events: March 6th – March 8th

Written by Todd Hower | March 6, 2015

 LTL Weekend March 6 2015

It looks like this Texas winter is finally starting to loosen its grip. It’s nice to see the blue skies and sun return for a couple of days. Usually we have what’s called a cold snap — wintry weather that will last for a couple days — not several weeks. March is here and it’s time to get warm!

The Oasis and Steiner Ranch Steakhouse are back on the calendar with live music. Lakeway has outdoor and indoor activities this weekend. Stop by Sailfish Park to help clear out some brush and eat free pizza at Firewise Field Day. Or find your treasure at the Lakeway Indoor City-Wide Garage Sale this Saturday at the Lakeway Activity Center. Always fun for the little ones is the Free Kids Workshop at Home Depot (Bee Cave and Four Points location).

We have plenty of other things for you to do and ways to stay up late on Saturday night, but not too late — it’s the weekend we lose an hour of sleep. We’ll see you out and about the Lake Travis area. Live Local!

The 9 Drivers You'll Meet at 620 and 2222

Written by Todd Hower | March 5, 2015

Lake Travis Area Traffic 620

It’s the most talked about intersection in the Lake Travis area.

There are three times of the day this intersection is best to avoid — morning, afternoon, and evening. Or in other words, you could say it’s best to avoid this intersection altogether. If you’re living along the 620 corridor and you have to get north or west, you don’t have a choice.

For anyone that has the pleasure of this intersection being a part of their daily slog, you start to take notice of the other drivers. Starting at about 7:00 am during weekdays is when traffic starts to build. Cars and trucks coming out of Bee Cave and Lakeway join together as they make their way past Steiner Ranch and begin to jockey for position.

Many types of drivers emerge as we all work our way up to the most loved intersection in the Lake Travis area — 620 and 2222.
