Tom Hughes Park on Lake Travis: A Hidden Gem

Written by Todd Hower | May 8, 2014

Tom Hughes Park 2

Here’s a secluded spot with beautiful views of Lake Travis that not many people know about. Tom Hughes is a Travis County Park tucked away between The Oasis and Mansfield Dam in the main basin of Lake Travis.

When you decide to go check out this hidden gem, head over to Marshall Ford Road located right across from the Randalls at Steiner Ranch. Shortly after turning off Ranch Road 620 is when you’ll notice a sign for Tom Hughes Park that will point you in the right direction. You’ll be on the same road that leads to the Marshall Ford Marina.

Zilker Botanical Garden: Visit the Fairy Trail and the Faerie Trail

Written by Emily O'Shaughnessy | May 2, 2014

If you’ve never been to the Zilker Botanical Garden, or maybe you have but it’s been a while, May is the perfect time to do it. Not only are the gorgeous flowers and plants in bloom, but the 2nd Annual Woodland Faerie Trail runs through May 26th. If you have an opportunity to visit it’s definitely worth the trip.

The Faerie Trail is a charming selection of small houses designed by local architects, design professional or recreational groups. They’re whimsical and fun, made out of things found in nature such as twigs, bark, shells, straw, rocks. Some are simple. Others are elaborate. All are unique and created from a love of nature.

The Pecan Street Festival: Escape the Lake Travis Area Bubble

Written by Todd Hower | May 1, 2014

Pecan Street Festival

Beautiful scenery, active lifestyle opportunities, great schools and great communities are all great reasons to live in the Lake Travis area. Proximity to one of the most vibrant downtowns in the country with access to all the culture and events is an added bonus.

This weekend, twenty-four blocks of 6th Street will be transformed into The Pecan Street Fall Festival.

This is one of the longest running festivals (30+ years) and a Top 5 Austin Event.

We know that sometimes it’s hard to leave the Lake Travis area, but we wanted to be sure and tell you about it in case you feel like escaping our beautiful bubble by heading for downtown Austin this weekend. I promise we’ll still be here when you get back.
