The triple digits are upon us. Last weekend was quite the scorcher! It’s funny how a little break from the 100 plus temps – like mid 90’s – can feel so much better. And this weekends forecast for the Lake Travis area is looking like the mercury could stay out of the dreaded triple digit zone.
Find yourself some shade and head out to enjoy the last days of summer before school starts! Here are a few things to do this weekend in the Lake Travis area.
Movie Night Under The Stars
Kick your weekend off this Friday night with a movie under the stars. Movie Night at the Glenn Theatre starts at 7:30p. Come dressed as your favorite movie character and enjoy live music by Alex Moorman and a showing of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Overall, this PG rated movie is pretty clean. Get more details at the IMDB Parents Guide for Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Parking is free, but tickets are $5 – unless you’re under 5.
Tex Arts Open House
Do you have any up and coming dancers, singers or actors in your house? Then you’ll want to check out the Tex Arts Associations open house this Saturday, August 17th from 10a – 2p located in the Erin Doherty Studio (map). Stop by for free performances, classes, and food! There will be activities for artists of all ages and you can meet some Broadway professionals while you’re there.
Steiner Ranch Concert in the Park
What to do Saturday night? Grab the family and head on over to Steiner Ranch (map) for the 6th annual Concert in the Park. The festivities kick off at 6p with performances by the Vandegrift band, dance, and cheer teams. Don’t miss the Starflight Helicopter landing and take-off, and plenty of other family fun activities, food, and games. Be ready to show off your dance moves when the Luv Handles take the stage at 7:45p.
This event is free, but you can help out Leander ISD middle and high school students in need by donating a few supplies.
More Live Music
Beto and the Fairlanes are bringing their own style of Texas Salsa music to the Grand Opening of The Glenn at the Backyard this Saturday night. Doors open at 7:30p for the 8p show. Tickets are $15 and that includes parking.
And More Live Music!
It’s time for a Sunday night wind down. Shades Cafe is wrapping up the Live on the Lawn summer music series with a performance by Cory Morrow on Sunday, August 18th. Grab your lawn chairs, blankets, and a leashed dog—festivities start at 7:30p.
Any shutterbugs out there? If you ever head out to any of the events we share out and around the Lake Travis area, head on over to our Facebook page and post your event photos. We’ll select the best (or the best of the worst, the funniest, and oddest) and share them here. Can’t wait to see what you catch on film!
