LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: March 9-11, 2018

Written by Todd Hower | March 8, 2018

Happy Thursday, friends! And just like that — spring has sprung in Lake Travis.

First things first: Let’s eat! Here are several new restaurants to give a try this weekend.

This new place for sushi is getting rave reviews. And so is this place … Plate by Dzintra is now open again after making a move to the old Gumbo’s location.

This sandwich chain opened in Bee Cave with new dishes that are supposed to be inspired by “street food .”

A University of Texas alum is bringing a version of these to the Oasis at Lake Travis.

Now then, let’s get you caught up on all the local happening’s.

On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale gave us a sneak peek inside Magpie’s beautiful new store and Bon Japanese Cuisine in Gateway to Falconhead.

When you’re ready for a vacation and losing an hour of sleep …

Next week is spring break for Lake Travis ISD and Leander ISD, so enjoy your weeklong vacation from school.

Plus, Daylight Saving Time is Sunday, March 11, so remember you’ll be springing forward. Will Texas ever ditch daylight saving time? All it has to do is pass a state law.

What’s your campaign strategy?

The local political marketing strategy is to place more signs on the corner than the other candidate. Is that going to sway your vote? These three ladies are the 2018 candidates for Lakeway Mayor.

Everything has gone south after the June 2017 groundbreaking ceremony for this Bee Cave development.

What to do if you’re out and about today or tonight …

Thursday evening is hopping with live music: Ben Johnson and Frenchie’s Blue Destroyers are playing at Poodies, Red Dawg is playing Mercer Street Dance Hall, and Carl Hutchens is performing at Grumpy’s.

If you’re in the mood for vino, tonight is March Wine Walk at Hill Country Galleria.

Have a great weekend, and we’ll catch you next week Lake Travis!

Springtime is almost here because The Oasis is back with live music every weekend as of March 9th. Yes, you’ll be able to enjoy Lake Travis sunsets in true Live Music Capital of the World style once again. Steiner Ranch Steakhouse kicks off its live music season this weekend.

On Monday, Lake Travis High School students performed mock surgeries using the Da Vinci surgical system sent over from the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway.

This week, a watercolors exhibit by educator and artist Sue Kemp went on display at the Lakeway City Hall Art Gallery (through April 11). In 2007, Sue’s close-up painting of bluebonnets was chosen for the official “Wildflower Days” poster for the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

This weekends featured event …

On Saturday, March 3rd, runners and walkers of all ages are invited to join the 13th Annual Run the Ranch 5K and Kids Fun Run in Steiner Ranch. Enjoy a fun-filled morning of racing, face painting, bounce houses and a vendor fair.

All proceeds benefit Hill Country Special Needs Alliance, a non-profit organization that is committed to helping families/caregivers in the Four Points Area of Austin offset the unique financial challenges affecting those with special needs.

When it’s wine o’clock …

On Thursday, LTL’s Cathy Hale gave us a quick lesson in grapes and geography that explains why our slice of the Texas Hill Country one of the top wine regions in America.

And speaking of living local, Jester King Brewery is hosting a flea market on Sunday featuring craft brew and handmade local finds from various artisans.

If you’re out and about today or tonight …

Thursday evening is hopping with live music: James Buffaloe and Tom Ben Lindley are playing at Poodies, Bob Appel is playing Mercer Street Dance Hall, and Carl Hutchens is performing at Grumpy’s.

LTL Weekly: Urban Air Bee Cave, Supermompreneur & The Weekend Roundup

Written by Todd Hower | February 9, 2018

Happy Friday, friends! It’s warm; it’s cold. It’s warm; it’s cold again. Who’s ready for spring?

We’re loving Bee Cave Bob’s early spring for Lake Travis prediction.

On Thursday, we introduced you to mompreneur and owner of Red Ruby Events, Gina Provolpulos. Let’s just say, business is “blooming!” This Lake Travis mom is elevating floral design at parties, events, and weddings one stem at a time.

In other news …

There’s an Urban Air Adventure Park headed our way! News broke that this 30,000 square foot facility will be opening in Bee Cave this summer. In addition to wall-to-wall trampoline arenas, it will have Dodgeball Courts, Stunt Airbag, Slam Dunk Tracks, Runway Tumble Track, The TUBES Obstacle Course, The Urban Warrior Course™, Warrior Battle Beam and an Urban Air Sky Rider Indoor Coaster.

It’s been a good week for Nick Foles. The Westlake High School graduate — and co-owner of this downtown Austin restaurant — who took his team to the Division I title game in 2006 used an old high school trick for a score that led to a Super Bowl LII victory.

Have a great weekend, Lake Travis!

LTL Weekly: Lake Levels Up, Parcel Theft Frustrations & The Weekend Roundup

Written by Todd Hower | February 2, 2018

TGIF, Lake Travis! Are you ready for a fun-filled weekend?

It’s been a dry winter, but the good news is according to LCRA, Lake Travis is 1.5 feet above average. This doesn’t mean it’s smooth sailing though. The drought conditions are bad and 97 counties across Texas — including Travis County — are under burn ban notices. But the lack of humidity is doing wonders for our favorite Hill Country vineyards, so cheers to that!

In case you missed us …

On Thursday, we addressed a nationwide problem that’s plaguing our Lake Travis neighborhoods too, parcel theft. If you’ve had these frustrating problems yourself, check out tips for what you can do to prevent it and what Lake Travis neighborhoods are doing to improve safety.

In other news …

The Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce held its annual economic forecast luncheon earlier this month and highlights included property value is on the rise, commercial development will continue, and road improvements will slowly help safety and traffic concerns along the 620 corridor. Plus, Lake Travis’ third middle school is already under construction and plans to be open for fall of 2019.

Have a great weekend, Lake Travis!
