LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: March 29-31, 2019

When you live in a mansion on Lake Austin …

Former NBA star Chris Bosh moved into a nine-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion along Lake Austin in the Steiner Ranch community last June and brought along an assistant that was logging 70 hours a week as a driver, taking care of the family dogs, assembling furniture, and taking out the trash. It got messy when the pay changed from an hourly wage to a fixed salary, and Bosh believed the new setup exempted the assistant from overtime compensation. And now we have a lawsuit. This wouldn’t have anything do with Chris Bosh making more than $239 million in NBA earnings, would it?

When your cruise ship is rolling …

Can we get a refund? A Lakeway couple was onboard the Viking Sky cruise ship when all four engines lost power in stormy weather off the coast of Norway. They rode out the rolling cruise ship which eventually regained its engine power and made it to a nearby port Sunday afternoon. They spent about $20,000 on the trip and was told they’d get a full refund.

When you skip the tacos and live music …

The New York Post put you on their list for a spring break destination. Frazzled New Yorkers and overtaxed Manhattanites are skipping the tacos and live music in favor of yoga and hatchet throwing at the new wellness resort Miraval overlooking Lake Travis in the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve.

When you’re thinking about moving away from the “Y” …

The site plan for a new store hasn’t been approved yet, but the H-E-B at the “Y” is concerned. H-E-B owns land less than two miles away, and the new location would make a lot more sense if the current location is impacted by significant road changes planned for the area.

When you deliver packages …

You need to employ more people. In the last four years, Amazon has created more than a 1,000 jobs in Austin and the new Amazon office — located in the Domain — will open in 2020. Hiring new employees is expected to take place over the next several years. When and who will move into the 3M building at Four Points?

When you’ve got 20 seconds to watch a sunrise …

Well, you’re in luck.

When you’re a 12-year-old philanthropist and party planner …

On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale introduced you to Kaylynn, a local 6th grader who turned her love of animals into a mission to help rescue dogs.

When you like Kumbaya moments …

You live in a city with the strongest sense of community. Based on this study, Austin’s #10. Aww, hugs. If you like crime, move to Houston. With a crime rate of 54 per 1,000 residents, Houston has one of the highest crime rates in the nation.

When your crime-fighting dog needs a cold brew …

Grab him an IPA lot in the yard or a Mailman Malt Licker. A couple in Houston launched beer for dogs. Sit, good boy.

When you cook at Willie’s …

It becomes a coveted SXSW foodie experience. Local, all-female chefs prepared this year’s Potluck 2019, and that intensified the cool factor for Spicewood. It was part of the Luck Reunion Music Festival.

When you have 48 hours …

That’s how much time you get to park your boat and RV in Lakeway. It was all very confusing, but after a discussion and clarification, Lakeway City Council voted to approve the ordinance and change the language to read RVs and waterborne vehicles may be parked on a residential lot for no more than two days out of any seven days.

When being in the zone is a bad thing …

Smokey Bear says, “Only YOU Can Prevent Wildfires.” On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale shared local wildfire prevention initiatives that you should know about heading into spring.
