Just in time for holiday shopping in the Lake Travis area, Lakeway’s newest gift shop, Steel Magnolia Marketplace is officially open for business. The boutique is beautifully curated with all sort of swoon-worthy gifts from jewelry and baby clothes to soy candles and stationery.
Oh, the storefront window with those crystal chandeliers! Uh-maze-ing.
What makes this store unique is the movie that inspired it — Steel Magnolias — is subtly woven throughout. Think of it as a living tribute to the 1989 classic. Just like the movie epitomized the bond of female friendships with a twist of timeless humor and a love of all things Southern, so does Steel Magnolia Marketplace.
If you’re shopping for a new journal in the store’s ‘card bar’ — yes, there’s wine!— you’ll appreciate Clairee’s quote, “I’d recognize this penmanship anywhere. You have the handwriting of a serial killer.”
You’ll find luggage tags and travel bags displayed with this epic one-liner, “The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.” (Clairee again.) Store merchandise is creatively grouped together with a fitting quote from the movie framed nearby, so shopping feels like a celebration of sorts.
But Steel Magnolia Marketplace isn’t just about cute trinkets and pick-me-ups. Store owner Linda Harman and store manager Janey Richardson wanted to support local entrepreneurs while celebrating the spirit of women in friendship and business. That’s why they chose vendors who are making a positive impact on people’s lives.
For example, you can shop bracelets from Chavez for Charity and for every bracelet purchased, 25% of sales will go to Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation (breast cancer research) and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).
Steel Magnolia Marketplace also carries brands like Frivolous Fringe earrings by Beaded by W, a local Austin designer who started her career while attending UT. (You go girl!)
Steel Magnolia Marketplace is located in Lakeway Town Center (2127 Lohmans Crossing, Ste. 306) next to Strandz Salon and a few doors down from Lakeway’s newest bakery, Hill Country Cakery.
And speaking of Hill Country Cakery …
We’ll be writing about this awesome new bakery in the coming weeks. Check out their Facebook page for the cutest darn Christmas cookies you’ve ever seen. They’re making them daily — and also selling out of them daily — so stop by early if you’d like a dozen or two.
