Ski Shores Cafe, located on Lake Austin, is the perfect spot to experience that laid back, Austin vibe. The casual feel and scenic waterfront location make for a unique local restaurant loved by many.
Hands down, the best way to arrive is via boat while out enjoying a beautiful day on the water. But if that’s not an option for you, either, the scenic drive down winding City Park Road (right off 2222) isn’t a bad alternative. That way you can still feel like you’re on vacation, even if you’re just on your lunch break.
Ski Shores has a long history, starting when it originally opened in 1954. Throughout the years it changed ownership several times and even closed down in December of 2009.
Fortunately for Austin residents the hiatus was short lived. New owners revitalized the restaurant the following April so now we’re all able to enjoy burgers, wings, chicken baskets, fries and beers by the lake as we have for decades. If you happen to be out on Lake Austin for an early Saturday morning cruise, dock-up and grab a few breakfast tacos (served up between 8-11am).
One thing I love about Ski Shores is that it’s very family-friendly. There’s a playground to keep the youngsters occupied, as well as a new sandy area where they can dig and stick their toes in the sand. Oh and the arcade games inside are always a big hit.
It’s a come-as-you-are kind of place, with live music on the weekends. They have other special events, such as an upcoming crawfish boil this Sunday (starting at noon, $8 per pound until they run out) and family movie nights throughout the summer on Fridays. Check the events calendar for details.
