It’s always good news when a delicious barbecue joint moves into the Lake Travis area. This time, it’s a name we all know and it’s not their first rodeo. Schmidt Family Barbecue will be opening a second location in Lakeway on July 13!
Known for its 75-year love affair with barbecue and family roots based in Lockhart, The Barbecue Capital of Texas, Schmidt Family Barbecue has been giving Texans the #meatsweats since 1948.
In 2013, they opened a location in Bee Cave near the Hill Country Galleria and now we’ll have location numero dos with plenty of ribs, brisket, pulled pork, sausage links, and turkey for every barbecue connoisseur.
The new 3,600 square foot restaurant (only a few short miles away from their Bee Cave location) is located in Lakeway Town Centre at 2125 Lohmans Crossing Road in the space that was formerly Buster’s BBQ. The “bones” of the space are ideal for the laid-back butcher paper vibe of Schmidt Barbecue, but co-owner Chad Banks said they are adding enhancements to make it even more appealing to local patrons.
This Schmidt’s location will definitely embrace its Lake Travis spirit with five different family packs named after the five football titles at Lake Travis High School, a kids eat free day every Monday (excluding beef), a new playscape outside next to the patio, weekday happy hours and more. They will be open daily from 11am until the meat runs out.
The owners are excited about the new location and they are expecting big crowds. If you’re familiar with this shopping center which is also home to places like Thai Spice, Adorn, Duchess, Strandz, Fresh & Fruiti, Mangieri’s and Flores, then you know this is a busy area for shopping and dining … especially on weekends.
And this is exactly why co-owner Chad Franks is excited about it. He and his wife live in the Lakeway area and have always thought this location was ideal. Now it’s even more appealing with Oaks at Lakeway under construction and the build-out of Lakeway Medical Village continuing.
As a Lakeway resident and meat-eater, I’m happy to see Schmidt expand into this part of LT. It will be nice to have this shopping center full of family-friendly tenants once again!
