Calmly center yourself in the warm earth tones, plush chairs and handwoven blankets of the Relaxation Room as you take one of the first steps in your journey through the elements at Sage & Sweetgrass Wellness Spa, one of the newest spas in the Lake Travis area.
Based on the healing traditions and ancient therapeutic powers of the Native American Anasazis of the Southwest, Dr. Alina Sholar combines her holistic healing techniques with her training as a plastic surgeon to offer you the most state of the art procedures infused with whole body wellness wisdom.
A trip to the spa is a practice in centering oneself with the four elements, which is how the spa is set up and decorated, down to the smallest of details. Each treatment room is different and based on one of these elements — Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. The intrinsic qualities of these elements present themselves in the themes of each room and their procedures — from the soaking tub in the Water Room to the couples massage in the Fire Room — making each trip a truly unique experience.
There are many tiny touches throughout Sage & Sweetgrass Wellness Spa that all add up to a supremely rejuvenating time. From Dr. Sholar’s personal paintings that hang throughout the space (she’s an artist, as well) to the Navajo-made spa and beauty products they offer, the mood is set and your treatment awaits.
This adherence to these Native American spa traditions infused with up-to-date procedures like Botox, Juvederm and skin tightening, make this one of the most exclusive spas in the Lake Travis area.
Dr. Sholar is a native Texan and her family is, by her words, some of “the original Germans of Luckenbach.” After years living out of state during her schooling and early professional career, she chose to turn over a new leaf in Texas with the opening of Sage & Sweetgrass. Picking a place wasn’t a hard decision considering the wonderful pace of life in the Lake Travis area, so she found the space this year and started building out shortly thereafter.
“We try to be a little weird and a little unique in everything we do,” she states as we tour the peaceful candle-lit halls of the fledgling spa. She found the space to start the spa in the clubhouse at The Meritage in Steiner Ranch just a few months ago and has been building out ever since.
The space, which she personally decorates, is home to many colorful crystals, handwoven blankets, personal totems and a special essence that seems to permeate every room. In the morning the staff burns sage and sweetgrass to clear the air of the spa, in order to create this urban kiva for their patients.
The spa also offers yoga classes including hot yoga, Hatha, Vinyasa, BUTI and PiYo — a mix between Pilates and yoga. Classes run Tuesday-Saturday and you can drop in for one or sign up for a package of 4 classes to save a bit.
Facials are one of the main procedures featured at Sage & Sweetgrass Wellness Spa, and even these treatments are blended with that unique Anasazi flare. Try a Turquoise Sky Facial for a regenerating treat for the skin, featuring real turquoise crystals. Or if you’re looking for a more intense experience, the spa offers Diamond Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning, as well.
A day at the spa would not be complete without a massage. One of the fundamentals for relaxing and getting back to your natural vibes with the earth, the spa offers you the healing powers of Deep Tissue Massage, Ho’dai River Rock Massage and Thai Yoga Massage. Check their website for a full list of treatments and procedures or to schedule a consultation.
