If you’re looking for something active and fun to do as a family this weekend it’s not too late to sign up to Run the Ranch on Sunday, March 30th.
Run the Ranch, hosted by Hill Country Bible Church, is a 5K and Kids Fun Run that takes place at the Towne Square Community Center in Steiner Ranch.
The Kids Fun Run starts at 10am, with the 5K beginning right afterwards.
This is a wonderful run right here in the Lake Travis area. As far as road races go, Run the Ranch is convenient with minimal hassle. No crazy early alarm clocks and no driving to downtown Austin at the crack of dawn. But there’s plenty of excitement in the air and generous sponsors to ensure the event is a success.
Watching the kids fun run is one of my favorite things. For some, it’s their first time in a real race. They get so excited about their t-shirt and goodie bag. But most importantly, it teaches good healthy habits early, and reinforces the message that staying active can be fun.
But hands down, the highlight of this year’s Run the Ranch is the inspirational speaker, Gilbert Tuhabonye.
Gilbert’s amazing story of survival touches everyone who hears it. It’s a powerful lesson in overcoming obstacles, maintaining grace during adversity and moving forward even when it would be easier to quit. His message not only applies to running, but it’s about so much more. It’s about dedication, optimism, faith, forgiveness and joy.
He’s a genocide survivor and award-winning coach of Gilbert’s Gazelles, a training group consisting of hundreds of dedicated runners of all skill levels. He’s also a co-founder of the Gazelle Foundation, which is dedicated to improving life for people in Burundi and offering educational assistance to children in Austin. Gilbert is a true inspiration, and you can read more about his story and mission here.
You can register online, or for procrastinators you can even register the day of the event. Late registration takes place that morning between 8am to 9:45am at the Steiner Ranch Town Square Community Center (cash or check only please).
