Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend this year, so it’s a great time to think about taking a mini-break.
A little vacation can rekindle that spark of romance any time of year, though — a couple of nights away from the demands of home can make it seem all the sweeter once you return.
Whether it’s a rustic hidey-hole you’re after or a full-service pampering, the Lake Travis area has something for everyone. Here are a few suggestions.
North Shore on Lake Travis
If you want a private space with all the amenities, you could do worse than look at the villas on offer at North Shore Vacation Rentals, Airbnb, and other private rental sites for the Island in Lago Vista.
Graceful Mediterranean architecture wraps around a gated condominium community that features covered parking, several pools and hot tubs, a full-service spa and fitness center, and a restaurant. The villas have one or two bedrooms.
At Flat Creek Estate, spend the night in the Vintner’s Quarters. Up to six guests can stay there. It has three queen-sized beds (one downstairs in the master bedroom, two upstairs in the loft), one bathroom, a living area, and a kitchen. The patio overlooks the vineyard.
The Hollows has several developments with individual condos or homes for rent. Try Austin-based HomeAway for some that match your budget and taste. Of course, Homeaway and Airbnb also have listings all around Lake Travis.
South Shore on Lake Travis
On the south side of the lake, you have plenty of delightful guest houses and even a few luxury hotels to choose from.
If you’re feeling zippy, check out the treehouses of Spicewood at Cypress Valley Canopy Tours.
Another favorite of zipline aficionados is GrandAnne’s on the Lake, a bed and breakfast cottage in Volente owned and operated by Anne Steichen.
And for the rest of you treetop lovers, climb the stairs to Lake Travis Tree Lodge.
Quirky and unique accommodations abound in the corner of the lake dominated by the Oasis. Unwind at Vintage Villas, a boutique hotel that just happens to be close to Hudson’s on the Bend. This place is truly vintage — don’t expect elevators or cookie-cutter decor. Breakfast is included.
If you prefer the brand-new to the vintage, try the Sonesta Hotel in Bee Cave.
Nestled among giant live oak trees in the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve is Travaasa resort and spa. TripAdvisor named Travaasa Austin a Top 10 Destination spa.
For pampering, consider such gems as Lake Austin Spa Resort, Lakeway Resort and Spa, La Villa Vista Resort, and several bed and breakfast offerings in the Lake Travis area.
Happy Hill Country Campers
For those who like roughing it, there are plenty of camping options. Who says romance has to happen indoors?
In addition to the gorgeous camping destinations deep in the Hill Country (including Inks Lake), you can camp right here in Travis County.
Pace Bend Park has plenty of spots for tents and RVs, for a quick trip that gets you back to nature but keeps you close to home.
And Arkansas Bend allows primitive camping, with no reservations required.
Where would you choose to go for your romantic Lake Travis getaway?
