September 12-18 is National Salad Week and that’s good news for over 80% of US adults who don’t get the recommended daily amount of fruits and veggies based on a report by the Center for Disease Control in 2015.
Adults should get a cup and a half to two cups of fruit every day and two to three cups of vegetables. When you look at it like that, it is quite a bit of green to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Take in your daily vitamins and enjoy your lunch with a fresh made-to-order salad, panini, cup of soup or recharge with a freshly-squeezed juice at the juice bar at the newly-opened MAD Greens in the Oaks at Lakeway. It’s the subtle salad joint that we’ve been missing in the Lake Travis area, ready to serve up healthy and creative meals for every type of eater.
Why would healthy eaters be so “mad”, you ask?
The restaurant is known for its eclectic collection of “MAD” infamous character-based salads, such as the Edgar Allen Poe (think hearty steak and plucky apples on a bed of greens) or the Crazy Ivan (citrus chicken, goat cheese and house-made croutons on greens) — salads with a real personality.
You have the chance to add and remove ingredients to your salad and make it a meal, which is good news for all of you picky eaters out there.
The salad combinations feature locally-sourced ingredients from Johnson’s Backyard Garden. And there are plenty of protein options (chicken, steak, salmon, shrimp, portobellos and tofu) for when you’re looking to beef up your lunch a bit.
Between the 44+ toppings and meats to choose from, there are millions of combinations to mix together and enjoy.
Did I mention their Dressing Mixologists?
That’s how they come up with the very interesting and super tasty salad toppers like the Smoky Cider Vinaigrette or Creamy Ginger Dressing. Add in a handful of croutons that are made in house and you have a fully decorated salad that’s ready for any type of hunger.
What to do for National Salad Week
Leading the charge to get people on the salad/healthy eating bandwagon, MAD Greens is posting salad recipes and healthy posts all week to their blog, so you can bring the salad closer to you, starting today.
But they want to convert eaters now, and that’s why they are offering you a coupon for a free salad, which you can find on their website.
It’s a great addition to the collection of restaurants to call the Oaks at Lakeway home, and I know I’ll be back soon to claim my totally free salad!
