When you’re up for an eight-episode local crime story …
On July 6, 2011, a body wrapped up in a tent and weighed down by cinder blocks and paint cans was discovered floating in Lake Travis near Pace Bend Park. Former firefighter, Joe Derrick Carr, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder of Veronica Navarro which he denies vehemently to this day. Carr’s side of the chilling story will be featured on Oxygen’s ‘Killer Motive’ on Sunday, August 25 at 7 pm ET/PT.
When you can’t stop me …
Darn you zebra mussels. From Texas to New York, freshwater sources are being invaded by a tiny but disastrous creature that no one seems able to stop. They have also been linked to the recent bloom in toxic blue-green algae responsible for several dog deaths in Austin. A team of UT undergraduate researchers is studying the severity of the infestation in the Austin area.
When you want to manage the herd …
A year after a video of deer trapping in Lakeway went viral and sparked public outrage, the Lakeway City Council has adopted a program to “manage the growth of the herd.” The new program aims to educate the community on deer management and solutions, to evaluate the deer population and situation annually, to enforce the city’s ordinance which prohibits deer feeding and to gather the community’s input on the situation.
