LTL Weekly & This Weekend in Lake Travis: April 26-28, 2019

Written by Todd Hower | April 25, 2019

When you spot a 50-foot long “Ole Hippie” in Lake Travis …

You might also see a UFO. And then again, you might be drunk on a boat.

When you like inflatables …

The floating water park and obstacle course on Lake Travis is back for a second season. Waterloo Adventures will open for the season on Friday, May 3. Don’t fall off and get eaten by “Ole Hippie.”

When your house has flooded nine times …

Lake Travis is 100% full. And when it rains as it did on Wednesday — and you live at Graveyard Point — you get concerned. Or you figure out how to get everything packed in about six hours, including the kitchen cabinets. Like this 83-year-old, who has owned his home at Graveyard Point for 46 years.

When you’d rather stay dry and play indoors …

Urban Air Adventure Park will open this fall in Bee Cave and has been voted the best place to take your energetic kids. It will also house a full-service cafe and a parent lounge (for working, napping, or catching up on Instagram).

When you’re reunited in middle school …

Rough Hollowers are frustrated. The proposed attendance zone realignments show the neighborhood kids would be divided between two Lake Travis elementary schools next fall. Superintendent Brad Lancaster said the feeder patterns would not change, so all the kids will be reunited in middle school at Lake Travis. Reunited and it feels so good.

When you’re the “highway of death” …

That’s what Spicewood residents are calling Highway 71. The road has seen nine deadly crashes between January 2017 and November of 2018. A meeting this past Saturday, organized by the nonprofit Safer71, was the first of five community meetings to discuss traffic issues and improvement proposals for the highway.

When you’ve got a golden arm …

Lake Travis senior Jimmy Lewis silenced the bats of District 25-6A baseball rival Hays in a 10-0 win at LT’s Cavalier Field. This was his second time pitching a no-hitter in April.

When you wanna rock the vote in Lakeway …

Early voting is taking place now through April 30. Voting day is May 4th. Get familiar with the ballot here.

When you have fantasies about Trader Joe’s …

On Wednesday, LTL’s Cathy Hale shared what’s headed our way to satisfy your hunger with a rundown of what’s newly open and what’s opening soon. From sweet and savory crêpes to pizza topped with BBQ to Muffalettas. But no Trader Joe’s?

When you add 145 people per day …

Austin is experiencing the fastest growth of any metro with at least 1 million residents. But not to worry, net migration averaged out to about 102 more people arriving per day than departing. Where are all these people coming from? Most of the people moving to Austin come from elsewhere in Texas; California is a distant No. 2.

When you move here and want to settle down in Old Lakeway …

This one-story Texas Craftsman Home was just listed.
