News of growth in Lake Travis continues to make headlines with Lakeway Medical Village announcing it has new tenants, La Quinta and Marriott. The hotels, along with 100,000 square feet of general and medical space, will sit on the 65.9-acre tract in front of Lakeway Regional Medical Center. The Goddard School Lakeway broke ground on Oct. 24 and is expected to open in April 2015.
The sparkly new hotels won’t be terribly huge, but they will be decked out with the latest touches of technology and comfort. The La Quinta will have 80-90 rooms and the Marriott will probably be the same size, but the type of Marriott has not been determined yet. The project will most likely bring in retail and dining as well, since the visibility will be fantastic from RR 620.
The Goddard School Lakeway is currently under construction and school owner Raul Alvarez is excited to open a location in this community. The Goddard School, a preschool and daycare, is unique because of its accredited F.L.EX.® Learning Program that focuses on creating a safe and nurturing childcare learning environment, highlighting each child’s ability. The programs range from infant to school age, so an after-school program (with a big gym and easy access to the school), will be very appealing to parents in Lake Travis.
If you’ve driven by the hospital lately, you can see the construction at The Harbor at Lakeway is nearly finished. This is a 150-room facility offering assistance and care for seniors. But what you might not know is a new 125-room independent-living facility will begin construction in the next quarter directly behind The Harbor at Lakeway.
The Lakeway Medical Village expects to bring in physicians, dentists and various specialists and think they may attract businesses who don’t find space in the The Oaks at Lakeway. Despite the fact that it seems like we have lots of empty office and retail space (with more on the way: The Backyard), word of the thriving Lake Travis market is spreading quickly, so all of that space is expected to be full.
The good news about new construction at Lakeway Medical Village is we already suffered through the bulk of the traffic woes when the hospital was built. But yes, we will probably face other traffic woes when it’s complete. Growth is inevitable out here in the Hill Country.
