Lake Travis Spring Break: 9 Things To Do Around the Lake

Written by KT Tubb | March 11, 2016

Lake Travis Spring Break 2016

While it may seem like you just rang in the New Year, it’s time to put on the sunscreen. Lake Travis spring break 2016 is upon us!

Many of you will be taking some time off to enjoy spring break activities. Whether you’re staying local or flying into Austin, with an almost full Lake Travis, it’s a beautiful time to be here and enjoy everything the Lake Travis area has to offer.

LTL will be taking a spring break as well. But we’re not going to leave you without a bunch of places to go and things to do for a spring break in the Lake Travis area.

From all of us here at Lake Travis Lifestyle — enjoy your Lake Travis spring break 2016. We look forward to catching up with you when we return on Monday, March 21.

1. Get on and in the water

With the lake as full as we’ve seen in years, it’s a great time to experience the water on a boat. At Lakeway Marina you can rent boats, water sport vehicles and private fishing guides.

If you’re around Emerald Point Marina, visit the folks at Just For Fun Watercraft Rental and they’ll get you on the lake in style.

If you’re lucky enough to own your own boat, there are plenty of public boat ramps to get you on the water fast — 13 in all — and you can find out where they’re at here.

The water temps might be a little chilly this time of year, but a week that starts off with temps in the high 80’s might make it a good time to check out some of the Lake Travis area swimming spots.

Or you can just wade in the water to feel the sand beneath your toes at Pace Bend Park, Windy Point Park, and Dink Pearson Park.

2. Get in the air

For the true adventurer inside of you, take to the skies on an aerial tour with Austin Biplane. Grab the Barnstormer package and take a flight over downtown, Lake Austin, and Lake Travis.

If you’re looking to stay a little closer to the ground, try soaring across the beautiful canyons and Lake Travis with Lake Travis Zipline. With 7 zips — ranging from 250 feet to 2000 feet — and over two hours of fun it’s an ideal Lake Travis spring break adventure.

Here are more activities you can try checking off your Lake Travis Bucket List.

3. Take a hike

In Lakeway, enjoy the sweet sounds of Hurst Creek when you stroll Hamilton Greenbelt. It’s the perfect place for a family outing or a peaceful escape.

In Spicewood, Grelle Park has a 2 mile hiking trail and Muleshoe Bend has a 6.5 mile hiking and biking trail.

Spring break is a great time for Texas Bluebonnet sightings and a day trip out to Enchanted Rock. And if you are anywhere near Johnson City, get lost in Perdernales Falls State Park while camping, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, and bird watching.

4. Go horseback riding

Make this Lake Travis spring break memorable with a scenic trail ride or six mile river ride on top of a horse. Head on over to Silver’s Trails in Spicewood for a true Texas experience.

Run by a mother and daughter team, Silver’s Trails offers lessons, horseback riding, and private parties. Explore the Hill Country with the entire family or bring along your special someone for a romantic ride for two.

5. Get pampered

Spring break or any time, there’s nothing better than a little pampering and there’s no place better than here.

Tucked inside Steiner Ranch, let Lake Austin Spa sooth away your worries with a wide variety of massages and facials. If you’re looking for a culinary experience along with your pampering check into Travaasa for a memory to last a lifetime.

Want it to last for your whole spring break? Take a staycation at one of the resorts around Lake Travis. Lakeway Resort, Vintage Villas, or any of the other romantic getaways along the way.

6. Get your golf on

For the serious golfer in you, there are plenty of public and private golf courses in the Lake Travis area. Boasting stunning greens and views, Falconhead Golf Club is a great choice for golf, lessons, and lunch.

Check here for our guide to Lake Travis area golf courses.

For the less-serious golfer in you, bring the family to Day Break Miniature Golf. After returning your boat at Emerald Point Marina, walk up the hill, grab a club, and swing it around the 18-hole miniature golf course.

7. Become a foodie

Enjoy a day at the lake filling your belly with the fabulous cuisine around the area. Start with a waffle at Backdraft Pizzeria, brunch at Lucy’s on the Lake, and a special night out at Hudson’s on the Bend.

Need more? A lot of new restaurants are landing in the area. And the classics are still here. Check out the selection of Lake Travis area restaurants.

8. Take it inside

With such beautiful scenery why would you ever want to be inside? Well … it can rain here in March. But the Lake Travis area knows how to have fun both outside and in.

For the family, High 5 Bowling in Lakeway or the Moviehouse & Eatery at the Trails at 620 will bring you hours of fun.

For adults, Infamous Brewing Company is a mix of indoor and outdoor entertainment. Enjoy the flavors of their locally brewed beer while on a tour of the brewery. Or stop by to celebrate their 3rd anniversary on March 19th.

Here’s a list of all of the Lake Travis area breweries that you can tour on spring break.

9. Watch the sunset over Lake Travis

Of course, no spring break would be complete without some downtime.

Relax at one of the 6 best patios in the Lake Travis area. Listen to live music. Catch a sunset over Lake Travis. Relax.

Enjoy Lake Travis spring break 2016!
