Did you know the “original” (as in first-ever!) Celebrity Style Guide was created right here in Lake Travis?
Well, it was. Thanks to Steiner Ranch resident Heather Campbell-Green’s love of the TV show Friends and her friendship with the show’s costume designer, she was inspired to help fashionistas everywhere replicate popular celeb styles. And let’s be honest, didn’t everyone want Rachel’s haircut?
Celebrity Style Guide, an online publication, was founded in 2005 and instantly appeared on the radar for fashion gurus across the globe as the go-to spot for the accurate identification of hottest designer clothes, accessories, trends and beauty products you see on your favorite television shows, movies and celebrities.
Heather’s love of celeb style was contagious and style editors flocked to her website for her fresh content. Heather’s site has been featured as one of the top 10 “must visit” websites by People StyleWatch and she has been mentioned on ABC News and in magazines like US Weekly and InStyle.
Lake Travis Lifestyle readers, get ready for a celeb-inspired Q&A with your neighbor, Heather Campbell-Green:
Q: What was your initial inspiration for Celebrity Style Guide?
A: My obsession with fashion on TV started in 2004, with Jennifer Aniston on Friends. I developed a friendship with the costumer and got the scoop on what Rachel and Monica wore and would report on it right after the episode aired. This lead to networks contacting me due to Celebrity Style Guide’s unique content and popularity and the amount of shows I covered continued to grow. I would fly out to visit the sets of all the shows I covered and began an amazing network of very talented people in the industry I am still friends with today and work with regularly.
Q: Speaking of celebs … In your opinion, which celebrity is the biggest trendsetter for 2015?
A: I think the ones to watch are Victoria Beckham, Miranda Kerr, Blake Lively and Kate Middleton.
Q: In the spirit of the holidays, what are your Top 3 fave celebrity-inspired gifts?
A: #1 – First, a gorgeous pair of shoes! Sarah Jessica Parker just launched a shoe line … hello!? Ryan Reynolds is a fan of FitBit Force, a nifty wristband monitor tracks the steps you take, stairs you climb, calories you burn and more. Thanks to Instagram and Pinterest we are all “Nail Obsessed” and what better way to change your look without the commitment and cost, so manicure sets make a great gift this season.
Q: What do you like about living in the Lake Travis area?
A: The beautiful landscape of the area, exciting shopping and dining and the quality schools for my kids. I also love the friendly small town atmosphere.
Q: When you aren’t working, what’s your favorite thing to do?
A: I place family as my highest priority. My husband Troy, daughter Taylor and son Justin are truly my touch stones and joy and most of my free time is spent with them. I also love to hike with my dogs and try to attend a spin class almost daily. Of course, my favorite guilty pleasures are brunch any day of the week, antique shopping and decorating my home.
Q: You’re one of Austin’s Go-To gals for fashion advice and insight. In addition to Celebrity Style Guide, where else can LTL readers find you?
A: I am a fashion and style consultant for The CW-Austin and I’m a style contributor for Austin Monthly. I also practically live at HomeGoods!
Q: What’s your advice for women who have “I have nothing to wear!?” syndrome?
A: My advice is keep your closet updated with things you love to wear and go-to pieces. Clean your closet out regularly by donating or clothes swap with girlfriends. If something has been hanging in your closet for a year with the tags still on it, let it go and make room for something you will wear.
Q: On that topic, talk to me about staples every woman needs in her wardrobe …
A: A plain white T-shirt is the fashion equivalent of guacamole, because it goes with everything! Wear it under a blazer, tucked into a high-waisted skirt, or with cut-offs. Second would be black leggins. Pair them with an oversized sweater, or under flowy dresses or skirts for extra coverage and warmth. Next is a pair of ballet flats. They are more fashionable than sneakers and more comfy than your high heels. I also think a pair of classic pumps, dark denim jeans and a great little black dress are must-haves!
Q: What’s your favorite celeb-inspired beauty trick?
A: I love the concept of taking an outfit from day to night by adding a jacket, layering on the jewelry and trading your flat for sky high heels. You can also use an oversized scarf as a wrap – tres chic! – or just substitute your jeans for winter-ready faux leather trousers or leggings.
Q: If I walk into ____ (place) on a __(day) there’s a good chance I’ll see you there.
A: If you walk into Zack’s American Bistro in Steiner Ranch on a Friday night, there’s a good chance I’ll see you there!
