It’s the perfect time of year in Texas for spectacular sunrises and sunsets — the promise of springtime!
That means we’ll be sipping craft brews and cocktails lakeside and poolside in no time. And the Hill Country will be buzzing with plenty of outdoor events.
Before you take a look at the weekend ahead, let’s take a look back at what went on this past week … just in case you missed it.
On Wednesday, Sandra took us on an adventure to Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, the national treasure that’s located between Lago Vista and Marble Falls. Get out for a hike this weekend!
Yesterday, our new writer Megan Russell introduced us to Lake Travis’ American Ninja Mama, Ashley King of Ashley King Fitness.
In other community related news — This family-friendly festival will return to the Hill Country Galleria on April 29. In May, Lakeway residents will determine whether or not they want to pass a $23 million bond. And Lake Travis residents held a love and unity rally.
If you’re looking for something special to do this weekend, the TexARTS Professional Series closes its 2016-17 season with the premier of Roger Bean’s Off-Broadway hit musical, The Marvelous Wonderettes, which will be presented February 17 – 26 at the Kam & James Morris Theatre in Lakeway.

The community is invited to hear Hollandsworth speak at the 2017 LAKE TRAVIS READS “Evening with the Author” on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Lake Travis Community Library, located at 1938 Lohmans Crossing Road in Lakeway. The event is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
Irish Music Night at LT Corner Pub (every Tuesday 7pm-9:30pm)
The final Brown Bag Lunch Concert Series is this Thursday, Feb. 23rd (at noon) at the Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek — Get ready for Mardi Gras as The Second Line Jazz Band returns to Lakeway. They have performed in concerts sponsored by the Austin Traditional Jazz Society and at various festivals.
Lakeway City Hall Art Gallery welcomes the wondrous watercolors of Johnnie Fields and some of his students from Feb. 15 to March 28. The free exhibit may be viewed during regular office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing.

Saturday, February 25 (noon-7pm) — Get your mudbug on at The Rusty Mule with Chef Adam Leger, all the way from Louisiana. You’ll be treated to an authentic Mardi Gras crawfish boil with all the fixins. Crawfish is $8 a pound or $22 for 3lbs. Love pets? Enter your pup, cat, llama, etc into our MARDI GRAS PET COSTUME CONTEST for a chance to win some really sweet prizes. Unlike the real deal, this Mardi Gras celebration is fun for the whole family!
Saturday, March 4th — Lakeway Indoor Garage Sale will be held at Lakeway Activity Center (8am – noon)
Sunday, March 5th — Save the date for one of Austin’s most cherished outdoor events, the Zilker Park Kite Festival! This is the nation’s oldest kite festival features hundreds of kites in the air and is free to attend for people of all ages; complete with kite flying contests, food, games and more.
