Lake Travis Lifestyle New Year's Resolution Ideas for 2016

We are quickly approaching that special time of the year again — a new year — when you get to reset your calendars and start off 2016 with a new set of resolutions.

Get going on the right foot with a goal or new outlook that will leave you feeling better, healthier and happier in no time.

Most Common New Year’s Resolutions

You might not believe it, but there are about 25 very common resolutions that people make, with about 10 that occur most frequently. You have probably made a few of these yourself:

  • Lose weight
  • Get organized
  • Save money
  • Enjoy life to the fullest
  • Learn something exciting

At the end of the day, you don’t just need will power and good intentions to pull off these goals. It also helps to have a little push to get over the slump, whether that is a special fitness class or gym to help you get and stay moving.

Try Something New

You don’t have to travel very far in the Lake Travis area to know that we have some of the best water sports this side of the Highland Lakes. From wake boarding to stand up paddle boarding, you have a real chance to work a whole new set of muscles and explore the nooks of Lake Travis and Lake Austin, too.

If you’re feeling really adventurous, take a trip to Main Event for some rock climbing action, which is one sport sure to get the muscles moving. Or if you’d rather swing a club to burn off some cals, try one of the many amazing Lake Travis golf courses for an energizing afternoon on the green.

Change Your Surroundings

When you feel stuck in a rut and want to get a bit more energized, try rearranging or redecorating a room, which is a great way to clean and purge leftover gifts from the holidays. Nobody needs 3 toasters, so donate an old one and gain more space in your home for the new year.

Pick a piece of art or two that suits your mood and jazz up your living space, or hire a Lake Travis decorator to help you fill in the pieces to make your dream room a reality.

Donate your gently used household items and clothes to Lake Travis thrift stores, and get a fresh start with a little more room in your living space.

Get Back to Basics

Let’s face it — we all have our weaknesses in life. But at the start of every new year, there is a chance to consciously change some of that, a little bit at a time, at least.

When you strive to be healthier, it’s always a good idea to try some relaxing yoga on Lake Travis to reset the mind and body. Or try your hand at a new class and burn off some of those turkey calories with a barre workout at Pure Barre in Lakeway.

If you like to be in nature when you take in your morning exercise routine, don’t forget about the beautiful natural trails around Lake Travis, as well. Bull Creek is a great hike and is open to dogs on leash, so don’t be afraid to bring your favorite pooch for an afternoon wandering and hiking through some of Lake Travis’ best-kept greenbelts.

Whatever your resolution this year, think out of the box for ways to help you in your journey for a better life. The Lake Travis area is booming with ways to help, so get started today.
