Summer may be winding down, but the new business boom in the Lake Travis area is moving full speed ahead.
In this week’s edition of Lake Travis at a Glance:
See the chopped beef pictured above? Kidding! That’s not meat, that’s a Taiwanese dessert. And it may be the softest, fluffiest icy treat you’ve ever had.
Coffee fiends of Lake Travis, get ready to have your coffee-loving minds blown.
Plus, Lone Star School of Music will be opening its fourth location in Lakeway at the end of August. Music to our ears!
Let’s dig in …
Food + Drink
If you haven’t heard of SnoMo, you’re in for a treat. It’s not ice cream, it’s not a snow cone. It’s somewhere in between and it’s called snow ice.
This Taiwanese dessert is thin strips of ice expertly shaved into long thin ribbons. The consistency is fluffy like freshly fallen snow but creamy like ice cream.
The snow ice is flavored with fresh ingredients like almond, chocolate, coconut, coffee, Macha, Taro and Milk Tea, just to name a few. There’s also soy ice, fresh ice, tapioca puddings, smoothies, teas, coffees and a Snow Waffle that is sinfully delicious.
SnoMo is located by Finley’s Barber Shop in Lakeway Commons. You’ll find a dining area with seating, lounge space that’s perfect for snow ice selfies, and a large covered patio out back that overlooks Yaupon Golf Course.
Coffee
Austin-based Summer Moon Coffee is coming to the Trails at 620 by December 2017. Featuring in-house roasted coffee beans and a cool lounge-y Internet cafe atmosphere, Summer Moon is a welcome addition to this already popular dining and entertainment district.
The Summer Moon story began in 2002 when they opened shop in South Austin. At that time, they were simply serving delicious coffee.
In 2004, Summer Moon began roasting their own coffee using local resources and 19th-century technology. They built a custom brick roaster with patience and ingenuity and it’s fueled by Texas Oak, not electricity. According to Summer Moon, the taste of fire-roasted coffee is unlike anything you’ve experienced.

Lake Travis Area Business
Lone Star School of Music will be opening a fourth location in Lakeway this summer in the building overlooking the intersection of Lakeway Boulevard and RR 620 (formerly Boat Candy). The building is currently being transformed into a modern music facility with plenty of rooms for private and group lessons, a DJ and music production room, a large patio and beautiful landscaping.
The school is excited to be joining the Lake Travis community and has already been working with Lake Travis area businesses and community leaders to provide scholarships for summer music programs.
While Lone Star School of Music will officially open on September 5, you can get to know this musical crew before they open at the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting event on August 31 at 5:30pm.
Activities include a ribbon cutting ceremony, live performances, prizes, and giveaways. Attend the celebration and receive 50% off your first month’s lessons when you sign up before September 5. There will also be raffles for instruments and recording sessions.
We’ve got dessert, coffee, music and more coming to Lake Travis.
