Last week, we chatted about the business boom in the Lake Travis area and we’ve only just begun.
Today we’ve got the details on a new bakery moving into the space formerly occupied by Sweet Bakery in Lakeway. And it looks delicious!
We’ve also got details about the status of Flint Rock Road, Flint Rock Trace and Lohmans Spur roadwork and here’s a hint: not done yet, but it will be soon.
Plus, the Spirit of Freedom monument in Lakeway is accepting names of local veterans for Veterans Day 2017.
Let’s dive in, shall we?
Food + Drink
Sweet Bakery sadly closed its doors in the Lakeway Town Center, but the good news is Hill Country Cakery is moving in.
It’s locally owned and operated by former Houstonian-turned-LTer, pastry chef Tammy Waxler. While her brick and mortar storefront in Lakeway will be new, her delish baking skills are already well-known throughout the Austin area.
Hill Country Cakery will delight your sweet tooth with an array of mouth-watering cake flavors like strawberries & champagne, buttered pecan (nut free), banana hazelnut, lemon berry, Italian creme and many more. Plus, Tammy makes cupcakes, cake pops, two-bite pies, and custom sugar cookies.
Hill Country Cakery is booked through July, but you can contact Tammy for info about orders for August and beyond.
Real Estate + Construction
Have you taken a spin on the new-and-improved Flint Rock Road near Medical Parkway?
It’s a rather exciting ride, especially at the Flint Rock Road and Flint Rock Trace intersection. But be careful, because the little “2-lane road days” are over.
The intersection at Flint Rock Road and Flint Rock Trace is totally different than it used to be with turning lanes and whatnot. No more casual rolling stops, people, these intersections are legit. That’s why it has the extra special sign to remind you that STOP literally means STOP. Yes, I guess they had to spell it out for us.
Construction on Flint Rock Road, Flint Rock Trace, Medical Parkway and Lohmans Spur is still underway. These are the roads located off 620 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital and Lohmans Crossing Shopping Center (Chair King).
The main drag of Flint Rock Road is a 2-mile stretch that runs from FM 620 to Serene Hill Drive. It’s been (and still being) repaved and widened with the addition of an asphalt shoulder. The project is taking longer than anticipated — it was supposed to be wrapped up in May — but paving was delayed due to rainy weather. Now they’re saying it will be done by the end of July.
And then it’s time for more road work on Lohmans Spur (completion expected in December 2018) to accommodate the new police facility.
Live Local!
Did you know nearly 1,100 past or present Lakeway residents have served our country? Sadly, since 1995, more than 120 of these brave residents have passed away.
In honor of these amazing Baby Boomers, Lakeway Heritage Commission annually solicits the names of Lakeway veterans to be engraved on the Spirit of Freedom Monument in time for Veterans Day on November 11, 2017. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, August 15.
The monument was originally dedicated on the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II to honor local residents who served. Initially it was a five-sided granite obelisk, but additional panels have been added over the years to hold more inscriptions.
A tax-deductible donation is required for each name to be engraved and space is limited. For additional information, please call Lakeway Heritage Center at 512-608-9533 or email [email protected].
What do you think of new roadways in the Lake Travis area? Lakeway residents, do you like the improvements on Flint Rock Road or do you miss the old days of roller-coaster-ish Flint Rock Road?
