Lake Travis at a Glance: Christmas Festivities Cometh!

Written by Cathy Hale | November 30, 2017

The holidays are upon us, folks! This weekend, many of the Lake Travis area’s most beloved holiday events are happening, so we wanted to make sure you’re ready to roll.

That Santa fellow — he’s a busy guy. From eating breakfast with him to chatting it up at a meet & greet, it’s all about the jolly man in red this month. Mark your calendars, so you don’t miss him before he heads back to the North Pole to start his annual sugar detox.

Plus, local businesses and organizations are supporting the community with toy drives and food drives, so your participation is greatly appreciated and needed.

Today it’s time to live local with a twist of holiday cheer.  And yes, we’ll write you a new Christmas in LT poem again this year. 😉

Lights On! and Trail of Lights
Lakeway Activity Center

December 1 – January 2

The City of Lakeway will shine with thousands of holiday lights for its annual Lights On! celebration. On Friday, December 1, Lakeway Parks and Recreation will host the free event that kicks off the first lighting of the Trail of Lights behind City Hall.

Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Rudolph’s arrival will signal the start of the evening’s festivities quickly followed by Santa “plugging in” the Trail of Lights display. While Santa and Mrs. Claus chat with the kiddos, you can purchase hot chocolate from the IceCream2U truck, roast a few marshmallows at the fire pit and decorate cookies (courtesy of H-E-B). Plus, kiddos can write letters to Santa too.

They will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items to benefit Lake Travis Crisis Ministries.

In order to stay off Santa’s naughty list, please don’t bring dogs, bikes, scooters, skateboards or motorized vehicles. After December 1, the Trail of Lights is on display nightly through January 2, from 6pm – midnight.

Be The Light Christmas Event
El Gaucho Winery in Spicewood
December 2, 11am-8pm

Get cheery with your friends at El Gaucho Winery on Saturday at their ‘Be The Light’ Christmas event. They will have live music with six bands playing throughout the day, a silent auction with 100% of all proceeds going to benefit Helping Hands Crisis Ministry of Spicewood, more than 20 vendors to shop and free activities (and hot cocoa) for the kiddos.

At 6pm, El Gaucho will officially light up its hill with a tree of lights!

To make sure you’re extra jolly, they’re serving up Grand Champion BBQ by BIG D’S BBQ (pre-sale of tickets starts today.) Meal includes smoked brisket, sausage, 4 cheese mac n’ cheese, beans, cole slaw, pickles/onions. And don’t forget $5 Mimosas from 11am-noon.

Sing Along Christmas Show
Lakeway Activity Center
December 3, showtimes 2pm & 4:30pm

Kick off the holidays with a cast of 80 local music lovers at Lakeway Sing Along’s 15th annual family Christmas Show benefiting the local Green Santa Project. Plus, Santa and Mrs. Claus may be stopping by for a visit.

The price of admission is an unwrapped gift for a child 17 or under. The Lakeway Activity Center will be collecting new/unwrapped toys for the LTlov program which delivers toys to Lake Travis children (ages infant to 17) in need through Thursday, December 7.

Breakfast with Santa
Lakeway Activity Center
December 9, 8:30am (tix still available!)

Breakfast with Santa is a family favorite in Lakeway and there are still tickets available for the 8:30am seating. Tickets are $15 and include breakfast and a photo of each child with Santa (please bring your own camera for additional photos).

Lots of fun surprises are in store as Santa brings Mrs. Claus and many of his North Pole staff along to meet the kids and help at this event. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today!

Meet & Greet with Santa
Hill Country Galleria
All weekend & December 7 – December 24

Of course, Hill Country Galleria will be providing additional Santa time. Kiddos can Meet & Greet Santa at the outdoor Central Plaza and take your own photos.  Kids, families & pets welcome!

During the week, Santa will be available from 4pm-8pm. On Saturdays, hours are noon-8m, Sundays noon-6pm. Should the weather outside get frightful, Santa will relocate indoors to the children’s section in Barnes & Nobles.

Sounds like Lakeway is the place to be! Wish I could be there for all the fun.
