This weekend is the premiere of All Shook Up, the Elvis-themed teen Musical Theater production presented by nonprofit performing and visual arts organization, TexARTS.
Starting this Saturday February 1, fans of the pompadoured crooner will be treated to a Broadway-style musical comedy that blends the best of Shakespeare’s The Twelfth Night and a handful of the King’s most popular singles. From renditions of “Hound Dog” to “Love Me Tender”, from “It’s Now or Never” to “Heartbreak Hotel”, you’ve got your favorites to choose from.
The setting is 1955 in middle America. Maddie McKowen plays the small town’s daydreamer and schemer, whose world is turned upside down after meeting the dark haired, guitar-toting young Presley. Jarod Watters is fresh-faced Elvis, and with plenty of hits and dancing to go around, you know this is a show that will have you tapping your feet all evening long.
Running for 2 weekends starting Feb. 1-2 and Feb. 8-9, there are two shows on Saturday, the first at 1pm and the later showing at 6pm. Sunday shows start at 1pm. Tickets are $15 and all ages are welcome.
