Tucked away neatly between Bee Caves Rd. and Lake Austin is the Lake Pointe subdivision. Home to scenic streets, varying home styles and impressive views of the Hill Country and Lake Austin, this small Lake Travis area community has been a mainstay in the greater Austin area since the mid-90s. Located just 12 short miles from Austin, Lake Pointe is enjoyed by many that call this Lake Travis community home including families, working professionals, and retirees.
History
Development began on Lake Pointe subdivision in 1994, and in the following years most of the lots were built out as well. There are a handful of lots still available for custom home building, which can be found closer to the Lake Austin side of the neighborhood and directly across from Steiner Ranch.
The total development has neared completion with approximately 825 homes and several different subdivisions including The Settling, The Landing, The Estate, Vista Pointe and the gated section of The Pointe. The neighborhood is part of the active and mandatory Lake Pointe Home Owners Association.
Housing
Take a drive down Resaca Blvd. and you’ll notice the many attractive architectural styles available in the subdivision. From classic brick-and-stone to Mediterranean homes, there’s a style for everyone and every family. Home prices and price per square foot can vary dramatically depending on location, view and upgrades.
Lake Pointe is a thriving community and many of the homes for sale continue to be in high demand. Homes that are closer to the front of the neighborhood which runs along Bee Caves Rd. (2244) are typically the least expensive. Continuing northward into the community will lead you to higher price points and some of the more upscale homes. The Vista Pointe section and the gated community of The Pointe are known for luxurious homes that boast one-of-a-kind views of the surrounding Hill Country and Lake Austin below.
Restaurants & Shopping
You can enjoy the convenience of all the nearby shopping and restaurants in the Lake Travis area. In Bee Cave there is the Hill Country Galleria and The Shops at the Galleria, which is where you’ll find the likes of Whole Foods Market, Dillard’s, Party Couture and Barnes and Noble. On Sunday nearby Lone Star Farmers Market makes an appearance at The Shops at the Galleria for a colorful assortment of organic fruits, veggies and everything in between.
Many of Lake Travis’ tastiest eateries are right around the corner from Lake Pointe, including Maudie’s Tex Mex, All Star Burger, Bee Cave Coffee, Cafe Blue and more. Tony C’s is another great choice in the area for avid pizza and Italian food lovers.
Taking a drive along Bee Caves Rd. and into downtown Austin will lead you to a plethora of one-of-a-kind stores and dining choices.
Fitness & Family
Lake Pointe is the perfect neighborhood to hit the streets for a scenic run through the hills. There is not a lot of through traffic in this small community, making it an ideal place for evening walks with the family or even a trip down to the community center.
The Lake Pointe Community Center at 11700 Sonoma Dr. is where you can find the community pool, complete with a kiddie pool and splash pad for the little ones and a clubhouse that can be rented for your private events. The Junior Olympic swimming pool is open April – September. The Lake Pointe Lazers are the local swim team for your school aged children to join during the swim team season.
You’ll also find plenty of open spaces at Vista Pointe Park and large play areas with playscapes, picnic tables, basketball and tennis courts at Napa Park. If aerobic exercise is your thing, the surrounding area includes a greenbelt and several walking trails throughout the development. Or just get away for some quiet time by escaping to the LCRA Day Dock on Lake Austin, a day-use pier with private access for the residents of Lake Pointe.
Schools
Lake Travis ISD is home to some of the finest schools in the Austin area, which includes Lake Pointe Elementary School, Lake Travis Middle School and Lake Travis High School. There are also several Montessori schools in the immediate area to check out, including Lake Hills Montessori and Bluebonnet Montessori School of Lakeway.
In 2014, Lake Travis Middle School opened at its new location off Bee Creek Rd., which has been built with state-of-the-art amenities. Renovations and expansions are in full swing to transform the old middle school into a shiny new Lake Travis High School Annex which is expected to be ready in fall of 2015. Part of the renovations include building a new media library and converting the old library into classrooms, as well as expanding science labs to be roomier. All of these efforts should allow LTHS to hold 1,000 more students.
Major Street Boundaries
You can access Lake Pointe from Bee Caves Rd., and follow Resaca Blvd., which will bring you through the main part of the neighborhood going from south to north and make its way to Lake Austin. Sonoma Dr. will take you through the east and west sections of the neighborhood.

Picturesque private cul-de-sacs, sunny views of Lake Austin, excellent educational opportunities — these are just a few of the reasons Lake Pointe stands out as a wonderful place to live. Lake Pointe is a very popular Lake Travis area neighborhood within the highly rated Lake Travis Independent School District. It’s within a short distance to a wide variety of shops, restaurants and the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lakeway.
Besides a strong sense of community that is unique to each and every neighborhood — and even sections within the neighborhood — another differentiating factor is Lake Pointe’s proximity to downtown. The location along Bee Caves Rd. makes it that much closer to downtown Austin compared to communities along RR 620. You’re not in Eanes ISD, but you’ll notice that the closer you are to downtown Austin will be directly related to how much home you get for your money.
