Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
Ok, so we live in Austin where it snows once every, oh, 10 years or so? Lucky for us, there is an exception right here in the Lake Travis area. The Hill Country Galleria brings real snow for residents and visitors to enjoy during the month of December. This weekend there’s one more opportunity to build a snowman or snow angel.
Saturday, December 21st, from noon to 4pm, the street in front of the Bee Cave Public Library will be covered in a blanket of white snow. There is no admission fee – just dress the part and show up for the fun! It’s the perfect opportunity to toss a few snowballs at your kids. And aren’t we all looking for that?
Live holiday music adds to the festivities, and if you haven’t had the opportunity to visit with Santa you can do that, too. Old Saint Nick will be near the giant holiday tree from noon to 8pm Saturday (for a complete schedule of Meet and Greet With Santa times click here).
We visited with Santa earlier this month and he was fantastic. He took the time to answer my kids’ gazillion questions – and he had a sense of humor, too. My daughter saved him the last bite of her chocolate chip cookie from lunch. I tried to talk her out of it but she insisted that Santa loves cookies, and how do you argue with that? Anyway, he took it with a jolly “Ho, Ho, Ho” and promised to save it and eat it later during his break. I’m pretty sure he winked at me, but it may have just been that constant twinkle in his eye.
Finally, if you’re a procrastinator like me, you can finish any last-minute holiday shopping at the nearby Galleria shops. Or warm up with a steaming coffee or hot chocolate from the newly opened Bee Cave Coffee Co. There are plenty of things to do at Hill Country Galleria this weekend.
So if you’re dreaming of a White Christmas in the Lake Travis area, this may be the closest thing. But judging by the smiles on the children’s faces, it’s just as magical as if it had fallen from the sky.
